We as Foundation Phase
would like to thank
Richelle Pretorius
(a grade 11 mom)
for her dedication and hard
work. Richelle is responsi-
ble for loading the clips.
She has a heart for educa-
tion, and making this excit-
ing project come to
life online.
The Foundation Phase at
ESCS has been blessed with
a reading series written by a
dear friend of mine, Saretta
Louw. Its main focus is to
help the English and Xhosa
speaking children to im-
prove the Afrikaans level of
reading. Thanks to the dedi-
cation and time of a special
ESCS mommy, we were able
to start our own reading
series on Youtube.
We plan to send the hard
copy of the zig-zag booklets
home. Parents can then ac-
cess the site, and their chil-
dren are able to follow the
video clip.
We started this project
one month ago and by
next year we hope to
have all the phases on
YouTube.
*Grade 1
will use Phase 1-4
*Grade 2 will use
Phase 5-7
(already online)
*Grade 3
will use
Phase 8 –12 + extra

until 19 August.

The Gr. 1 – 3 Music is Fun concert, “We All Stand Together” were a wonderful “bom-

Thank you to all the parents who come to support this initiative. Parents of pupils
who do musical instruments, voice training or dancing with private tutors, must
please feel free to contact the school via the email facility, to arrange for their child
to be included in the programme.

WINTER SPORT
TERM 2
Dear Primary School Parents
Term two has come and gone by in a flash and I am truly excited
and energised by the participation of our pupils, staff, coaches
and parents over the past few months. Again, I say a very special
thank you to all of you for your encouragement and involvement
in the lives of our children. I trust that we will all continue to work
together with a clear understanding that we want them to
participate in sport as far as possible, to seek enjoyment in it while
striving to improve and ultimately, achieve goals set, in order to
be a witness to others while bringing glory to our Father.

WINTER SPORTS
NEWSLETTER
The numbers of children participating definitely seem to be up from last year and I have seen and heard
from many of them that they are enjoying the sports they participate in, both inside and outside of El
Shaddai. We have also seen a marked improvement in a lot of the children and there are most certainly
achievements which we can all be proud of. I urge you to also continue to forward me details of sport
and activities that your children participate in outside of the school’s offerings, and most definitely send
me information and photos of their achievements. We celebrate with you and them as they grow.
Gym Wizards held their 19th Annual Winter Inter Schools Competition on June 11th at the Sunningdale
Sport Centre and this was their biggest competition yet, with almost 600 participants from 15 different
clubs.
Children took part in 14 different difficulty levels preparing them step by step for competitive sports as
well as Western Province Level participation in Tumbling and Trampoline.
Children from El Shaddai Christian School took part in the competition and the following children
finished among the top 10 in their level:
Blue Beginner Girls – 9th Jani Holtshausen
Blue Advanced Girls – 1st Marne Arlow
Red Beginner Boys – 1st Adriaan Arlow and 3rd Daniel van Wyk
Cleo van Coller received 1st place with a gold medal in her club competition that took place in May
and has been selected to compete in an even bigger competition which will take place at the end of
July.
We congratulate all of our gymnasts and tumblers.
Holly Gerber (middle) had her District
Trials for Gymnastics at the Western Cape
Sports School where she competed in the
Level 1; age 7 years group for the Cape
Town district. She got a gold and came 1st
overall - out of about 40 girls! This was the
first of her major competitions, her next
one is the big South Zone competition
which covers the Western and Eastern
Cape regions in Uitenhage in August. We
wish her all the best.
Netball
Our netball girls, under the dedicated coaching and guidance of Hanlie, Zendre and Ethel, with ongoing
assistance from a few moms, have developed and continue to do so. I thoroughly enjoyed watching
their matches at the Monte Vista Primary School tournament and am extremely proud of the way we
played and fought back from defeats, to draws and wins.
Our girls will have a few more fixture matches in the new term and we have also been included in
another tournament in early August. We are also setting up a number of friendly matches for the girls
Ronen Marais also
continues to improve and
achieve on the swimming
front and again we
congratulate and stand
behind him in this sport
as he grows, matures and
competes at exceptional
levels.

so that they can have increased game exposure, with the hope that their passion for the sport will
continue to grow and develop.
Hockey
Our hockey boys and girls have grown too this past term under the coaching of Ilse, Amelia, Corne,
Sam, Tobie, Annalise, Louwrika and Marelise and I have enjoyed being a part of this coaching team as
we all aim to help guide the players to further enjoy, improve and achieve in this sport. We definitely
have a wealth of talent in this school and our match results are evidence of that.
More action from the
girls at the Monte
Vista PS tournament.

The astro sessions on a Wednesday evening have given our children added exposure to a surface that
they will all most certainly be playing on more often than not in the coming years and I truly appreciate
the dedication of parents in bringing their children to these additional training sessions, and a time when
most of us are thinking of homework, dinner and bed.
Our U8 Boys pictured here in a
recent tournament held at Curro
Durbanville. They thoroughly
enjoyed the experience and
displayed some skills that have
certainly come through proper
coaching and a love for the game.
Our boys and girls have most certainly done us proud in their matches and tournaments and a full
breakdown of results to date will be available on the website in the new term. We are also waiting on
the new terms fixtures from Durbell Hockey and these should be available on the notice board at school
on the first day of term.
Third Term
We are starting practices on the first day of the term, the 18th July 2016 and we look forward to a full
and exciting one. The fixtures for both netball and hockey matches in term 3 should be released before
schools start and will be made available to parents and players as soon as possible.
The postponed hockey clinic with Enhanced Sports has been re-scheduled for Wednesday 27th July
2016 (weather permitting) and I ask that you please diarise this date. We will have the astro facility for
the full two hours, from 17h00 to 19h00 and I know that great value will be offered at the clinic.
We have registered for a number of term 3 tournaments and schedules and dates will be sent out at
the start of the term, upon receipt from the hosting schools. I encourage you and your children to make
use of these opportunities, as the shortened format of matches often results in an anvaluable learning
process for the players.
The netball coaches and I are designing a Winter (wet weather) programme for training days where it
is just not safe or wise to practice outside. We aim to therefore not have any cancelled training slots in
the new term and I trust that this will also help parents in the complicated planning process.
We will also look at the option of hosting a Primary School specific Cross Country event in the new
term as we start preparing any interested boys and girls, and parents, for the upcoming Biathlon season.
Wishing you all a wonderful break over the holidays.
Sincere thanks and regards
Lee Topper
