PRINCIPAL’S MESSAGE
Semester 1 Reports
Semester 1 reports on progress and achievements
this year were sent home on Friday last week.
Reports are a ‘point in time’ judgement on how your
child is performing according to state wide
standards for their particular stage of schooling.
Interview times will be available to parents next
term to discuss your child’s progress with their
teacher/s and update their goals set in Term 1. You
are welcome to phone teachers to discuss report or
arrange a convenient meeting time sooner if you
wish.
NAIDOC Week
This week we recognise NAIDOC Week with a
number of activities based on the theme for 2021 –
Heal Country! The theme calls for all of us to
continue to seek greater protections for the lands,
waters, sacred sites and cultural heritage. NAIDOC
week is an opportunity for all Australians to come
together to celebrate the rich history, diverse
cultures and achievements of Aboriginal and Torres
Strait Islander peoples.
On Thursday 24th our P and C will host a ‘Big
Breakfast’ and we invite our school community to
join us for a delicious bacon and egg roll and a tea/
coffee/hot chocolate for breakfast. Breakfast will be
served from 8:15am – 9:00am.
The SRC and Ms Winsor have organised a K-2
colouring and 3-6 poster competition based on
Healing Country theme. We look forward to seeing
the masterpieces created by our students.
Straight after the breakfast we will have our NAIDOC
Week performance at 9:00am in the hall. A display
of work completed this week to recognise NAIDOC
Week can be viewed and we will be treated to a
performance from the Aboriginal Dance group from
Armidale Secondary College.
We look forward to having many parents and
friends join us this Thursday.
P and C
A huge thanks to our P&C for hosting a fundraising
BBQ at Bunnings on Saturday. Jo, Nancy, Julie, Helen
and Inge helped with the supermarket run, cooking
and serving at the BBQ to raise money for the
benefit of all our students.
Their efforts in the freezing weather raised $372
that will go towards additional resources and
activities at our school.
Raffle tickets for the P&C firewood raffle are due
back this week. Winners will be drawn on 25th June.
Have a Safe and Happy School Vacation
This Friday 25th is the final day for Term 2. Students
return to school on Tuesday 13th July.
We wish all our families a safe and happy school
vacation period.
We hope that all our students have plenty of fun, as
well as some rest so they come back rejuvenated
and ready for plenty more learning activities in the
second half of year.
Star Awards
“You’re a Star Award” certificates are presented at
our Monday morning assembly to students who
have been using the You Can Do It keys to success
and demonstrating persistence, resilience,
organisation, getting along and confidence.
Congratulations to our recipients this morning:
Jocelyn, Elwyn, Isaac, Aaliyah, Hailee, Tomas and
Kiesha.
These ‘keys’ are instant rewards given daily to
encourage use of the ‘5 keys to success’-
persistence, resilience, organisation, getting along
and confidence.

3/4 News
This week in 3/4 we have been continuing our work with our favourite animals. Our posters look beautiful and are ready to be displayed at our learning exhibition on Thursday. We have also been working on some artworks to go with our informative posters. For these artworks we were given half a photo of our animal of choice. We then got to use special sketching pencils to draw the other half. It was challenging but we are really proud of how they turned out. Have a look at our efforts below
Have a safe and happy school holidays, we will see you in term 3!
1/2 News As part of our PDHPE unit ‘Vegetable Safari’, we explored different flavours that our taste buds can taste. We had four solutions; sweet, salty, sour and bitter. We dipped our cotton bud in and tasted the solution—we had to guess which of the four tastes we tried. This week we are going to match up some vegetables to the different taste types. (Note: cotton buds were discarded after each use so no double dipping occurred!)
5/6 News Holes...
What a terrible book! You know a book is bad when you read it to a class and they keep telling you "No!" and groaning at you….. Oh- except that was every time we went to STOP reading the book!!! 5/6 have investigated the story of Stanley Yelnats and his experiences of being accused for a crime he did not commit and being sentenced to a juvenile detention facility. We explored the struggles, challenges, friendships and triumphs that Stanley and the other Group D inmates faced. Students had in depth and mature discussions about "right" and "wrong" around racism and the changing laws over time. A book that engages EVERY SINGLE CHILD, every time it is brought up is rare... it has been a wonderful experience to share. Reminders from 5/6: Lake Ainsworth details will come out in the first week of next term- costs and dates. Parents are welcome to come and start making payments now as the expected cost for the week will be approximately $400. Happy Holidays!
Kindergarten News It’s been a busy and productive term for the Kindergarten
class. We wish all our students and their families a safe and
restful break and look forward to more amazing
opportunities in Term 3.
Here are just some of the activities the wonderful
Kindergarten students engaged in throughout the week.
Transition News
Our Transition children really ARE "Little Stars" this year! They are learning to hold a pencil right (with their 'bossy fingers') and practicing their cutting skills. We have finished our Circus theme and want to say a special "THANK YOU" to the Stage 3 boys pictured, who gave up their play time at lunch to construct our cardboard "big tops". We will spend the last week and first week of next term on NAIDOC activities. Next term we will have 2 changes to note: 1) we will be lining up with the "big kids" at the end of the day. Parents can pick up children from the bus stop. 2) halfway through the term we will start our second day of Transition. Beginning on Friday 20th August we will have Transition 2 days a week, on both Thursday AND Friday.
SRC News NAIDOC Week Competition The SRC are running a colouring in competition for students in K-2 and a poster design competition in 3-6 for NAIDOC week. 3-6 poster designs must include the theme “Heal Country” and are due Tuesday 22nd June, Week 10.
