The students have been involved in exciting learning programs and an array of extra-curricular activities over the past 10 weeks. The growth of all students should be celebrated! A big thank you to all the staff at Wattle Grove for their high level of skill, dedication, care and drive in ensuring students receive an outstanding education which focusses on the whole child. A massive thank you to our parents, friends and community members for your support throughout the term. Without your support, we would not be able to provide the opportunities we do for the students. I know that many volunteer hours were given to organise and lead events in the aim of bringing the community together and raising funds for school programs and initiatives. For those of you leaving the Wattle Grove family, we wish you all the best at your new school and future adventures. I wish everyone a safe and happy holiday! Canberra Excursion Our Stage 3 students will soon be undertaking an education tour of the national capital. Students from Years 5 and 6 will be given the opportunity to participate in a variety of educational programs with a focus on Australia’s history, culture, heritage and democracy. The Australian Government recognises the importance of all young Australians being able to visit the national capital as part of their Civics and Citizenship education. To assist families in meeting the cost of the excursion the Australian Government is contributing funding of $20.00 per student under the Parliament and Civics Education Rebate program towards those costs. The rebate is paid directly to the school upon completion of the excursion.

On your marks, get set, go! 3-6 Athletics Carnival What a successful day we had at the athletics carnival with lots of running, jumping and throwing, and fierce competition. The students displayed great determination and sportsmanship throughout the day! Congratulations to all the students on their fantastic effort! Thank you to Mrs Dodd & Mrs Bartram for their organisation of this event. Thank you also to Mrs Richter and our parents who assisted with the BBQ on the day. It was a great team effort on the day, ensuring a fabulous time was had by all. Please see back pages for photos Disco Dancing A fun night was had by all at the disco last Friday! The children had a great time dancing to the latest tunes, snacking on a range of delicious food available and purchasing some novelty toys. Thank you to all our family and friends who attended the night with their children. It was a great family atmosphere. A huge thank you to the P&C for their organisation of this event. All aspects of this event were organised and led by P&C members, and we are very grateful to have such an amazing P&C who works hard to provide these opportunities for our children. Thank you also to our family and friends who helped out on the night. Shining in the Spotlight Congratulations to our 3-6 dance group who performed at the Seymour Centre on Tuesday as part of the In the Spotlight Dance Festival. Our dance group was chosen out of many schools to perform at this event. They did an amazing job, showing great skill and professionalism. I felt very proud watching them shine on stage. A huge thank you to our dance

teachers and coordinators Miss Weeks and Miss Cascio, and Mrs Lazarevic who supported the dance groups during the rehearsals and performances. Thank you also to our parents who supported their children with costumes and transport. It takes many people and hours to make this happen and I thank everyone involved. Please see back pages for photos

COS Concert is Fast Approaching! A friendly reminder to purchase your tickets for the COS concert, 6 August 2019. Tickets are available from the front office. Additional notes and information for the performers has been given this week. If you have any questions please contact the office. We hope to see you there!

Lost Property (repeated item) Our lost property tub is growing larger by the week. Can you please remind your child/ren to ensure they look after their clothing and lunch items. If students have their name and class on their property it will be returned as soon as possible. We appreciate your assistance with this. Student Reports You should have received your child’s Semester One report yesterday. Thank you to the teachers who have prepared these reports to communicate individual student’s progress during the Semester. If you have any questions please see your child’ teacher.

Parent Conversations We are trialling Parent Conversations in Term Three. These conversations are to discuss aspects of the student’s reports. They are not compulsory but available should you wish to participate. 10 Minute time slots will be provided. It is important this time frame is adhered to ensure all appointments are on time. A note was sent home earlier in the week. Information was also placed on the SkoolBag App.

Wattle Wanderers I had an excellent time visiting Mrs Bartram who has been focusing on sustainable practices with Stage Three as part of their learning in Science and Technology. The students learnt about natural products and what they are used for. The students also engaged in discussions around the importance of sustainable farming practices to ensure our natural resources are not depleted and the actions they can take as an individual consumer to support this.

Farewell As term 2 comes to an end, I’d like to take this opportunity to say farewell to some of our Defence students that are heading off on their next adventure. We will certainly miss you all - take care and good luck!

“How lucky am I to have something that makes saying goodbye so hard” ~ Winnie the Pooh~ Exercise Talisman Sabre With many members from the LMA participating in Ex Talisman Sabre 2019, it is a timely reminder to inform myself and the classroom teacher of any long term parental absence. If you have an upcoming absence please email [email protected] alternatively I can be reached via the administration office.
