MOTHER’S DAY BREAKFAST

On Monday morning this week we celebrated ANZAC Day and payed our respects during our morning assembly. I would like to congratulate the children who showed a great amount of respect during the ceremony and a thankyou to the teachers who helped organise the event, in particular Mrs Scheepers and Mrs Palumbo.

Lest we forget…

ANZAC DAY heTHEN FROM ME FROM ME SURVEY

This week we farewell Mrs Vicki Stanley from the front office. Mrs Stanley has worked for the Department of Education for 33 years, with 20 of them being at Greenway Park Public School. Over the years she has created many newsletters (including this one), answered many calls, announced many reminders over the PA system, mended many scraped knees and organised her fair share of Kindergarten packs. We will miss her great sense of humour, her hard work and dedication. We wish her all the very best of luck as she moves into retirement. I know you will all join me in congratulating and farewelling such an integral member of our school community.

2021 NAPLAN Online testing will take place over a two week window (May 11-21) to benefit student performance. The exact test schedule is outlined below. All four tests will be completed online for all Year 3 and Year 5 students except for the Year 3 Writing test which will be paper based. NAPLAN Online will provide better assessment with more precise results, a faster turnaround of information and a more engaging test for students. NAPLAN Online is a tailored test that adapts to student responses. If you wish to discuss any aspect of NAPLAN please contact your child’s class teacher prior to the assessment.

Catch Up

assessment

This week begins our two weeks of Check-In assessments for years 4 and 6. These assessments are set for all schools across NSW to supplement existing school practices, identify how students are performing in reading and numeracy and to help teachers tailor their teaching more specifically to student needs in line with NSW Syllabuses. These assessments are completed using an online platform. There are two assessments which are completed across the fortnight. Over 400 students received an attendance award either at the end of last term or at the beginning of this term. These awards were given to students who received between 95%-100% attendance for the term. This means that students were either at school every day or missed one or two days. This is achievable. Over the next few weeks students will be able to see if their class fits the 95% and above criteria. On Monday 26th April these classes had outstanding attendance. Let’s keep up the great work. Everyday matters!

Regular attendance helps students to:

• develop a sense of belonging

• develop and maintain friendships

• be more engaged at school

• progress with their learning

• be more aware of career and life options.

Every day counts. Missing just one day a fortnight can amount to

four weeks of lost learning over a year. Over their school life, this

can equal one year of missed learning.

ATTENDANCE heTHEN FROM ME FROM ME SURVEY

This week we have launched a variety of lunch time programs. Thank you to the hard working teachers who are always looking for various opportunities and initiatives across the school. I was blown away with the various options throughout the week to keep students busy and engaged at school. These include but are not limited to the garden group, the book nook, a fitness club, board game groups, bucket drumming, chess, mindfulness and Minecraft. These groups ensure our students are known, valued and cared for whilst at school and fit under our Strategic Direction 2: Creating a supportive learning environment.

PSSA Sport REMINDER Please make sure your child includes their FIRST NAME, SURNAME, CLASS and PSSA sport group on their payment envelope. If PSSA sport is cancelled, payment will transfer to the following week.
