Dubbo South Public School Respect, Care, Cooperation & Responsibility From Sharon’s Desk Its Week 4 already and we have had many students aending school either every day or for their nominated day based on their surname. We are ensuring that all staff and students are pracsing safe hygiene with lots of hand washing and saniser being used, and certainly for our students there have been no COVID-19 cases in our area for many weeks. Aſter the Premier and Ministers announcements this morning we are expecng all students to return full me from next Monday 25th May. This is excing news and I appreciate every parents input and support with your childrens learning at home since the COVID crisis started. Online learning and booklets will conclude at the end of this week, as all school learning will be occurring on site at South. I have surveyed staff for their input on what posives have come out of this COVID period in regard to school operaon, learning and teaching. There are many new ways of learning we dont wish to lose—it is a great way to create new change opportunies for our school. Over the next few weeks I will send out surveys to gain feedback from both our parents and students. This way we can get a full picture of the posives that have risen out of a pandemic—strange as that may sound. During this next phase parents and carers will be requested to drop off children at the gates in the morning. At 3pm enter the school and move to class pickup areas only and remember to always remain at 1.5 metres apart. Although things are returning to normal for learning and aendance, COVID-19 is something we need to live with. Be mindful of all hygiene requests and social distancing for adults. Together we can move forward and enable our school community to return to some sort of normality. If you have any queries or concerns please contact the school office or use REMIND in school hours to teachers. THANK YOU! Kindergarten enrolments are now being taken ready for 2021. Our transion program will kick off again in Term 4. More informaon to come in Term 3. If you know of any school age children turning 5 by July 31st 2021, ask them to come to the school to pick up an enrolment package from the school office. Reporng and Assessment for Term 2 will look different due to our students being away during the COVID period. We will provide a wrien report to parents and carers but these reports will have no A-E grading. It will be a summarised account of students progress and achievement across Semester 1 at school and home with suggesons on where your child might need to focus on improving their learning growth. More informaon will follow. At this me reports will be sent home Friday 24th July. Thank you to all of our volunteers during Volunteer Week. You certainly make the difference to our students and school community especially our front line medical workers. Updates: A new sound system has been installed in our hall, all ready for assemblies and performances etc. when we are able to. The toilet doors have been completed across school with Growth Mindset statements in bright colours for our kids. Other doors across the office areas are also being painted. Keep an eye out when next walking around the school. Our Special Educaon Unit will be receiving 2 new classrooms for our students. This has been a long process and journey for our school but finally we are nearly there. The old dental clinic (now a classroom) will become a therapy/admin area for the unit. Due to the change in zoned areas for students about 6 years ago, enrolment numbers have gradually reduced at South. Southlakes area as we know it, now was moved out of our zone. As a consequence the 3 demountable buildings on Dalton St will be removed. If numbers increase again of course, we will receive new ones. The school has a lot of space and certainly all students, now at 660, are geng the best of our facilies. Cheers, Sharon Murray, Principal. From Sharon’s Desk It’s Week 4 already and we have had many students attending school either every day or for their nominated day based on their surname. We are ensuring that all staff and students are practising safe hygiene with lots of hand washing and sanitiser being used, and certainly for our students there have been no COVID-19 cases in our area for many weeks. After the Premier and Ministers announcements this morning we are expecting all students to return full time from next Monday 25th May. This is exciting news and I appreciate every parents input and support with your children’s learning at home since the COVID crisis started. Online learning and booklets will conclude at the end of this week, as all school learning will be occurring on site at South. I have surveyed staff for their input on what positives have come out of this COVID period in regard to school operation, learning and teaching. There are many new ways of learning we don’t wish to lose—it is a great way to create new change opportunities for our school. Teaching and Learning Tales Kim Hosking – 3H When you are near Mrs Hosking you can’t help but smile and soon find yourself laughing aloud. Mrs Hosking’s spectacular smile and sharp wit allows her to spread joy on a daily basis at Dubbo South Public School. Mrs Hosking is an unassuming educator who has a remarkably positive impact on her students and colleagues. Her gift is her ability to read and connect with others. It was this love of forming real relationships that inspired her to become a teacher. Originally from Tamworth, Mrs Hosking grew up surrounded by children. “I was always good with kids. I loved babysitting and teaching just felt like the next step.” As a Targeted Graduate, Mrs Hosking’s first posting was at West Port in Port Macquarie. Her husband and her ventured to Dubbo to start a family. Mrs Hosking enjoyed working part-time in Narromine while her children were young. She arrived at Dubbo South Public School in 2013. “I love working with my colleagues. I am lucky to work with such great people,” she said. “I also love working with all of my students. It is the wellbeing and relationship side of schools that inspires me. I am motivated to make a difference with the students who need it the most.” Mrs Hosking’s creative side allows her to conjure fun and high-impact learning experiences for her students. “Everyone likes to have fun when they learn. I am always trying to think of ways to engage my students in the joy of learning.” Mrs Hosking recalls how she has transformed her classroom into a medieval castle complete with dragons and princesses to engage students in the art of storytelling. “I can still remember surprising and fun lessons I experienced in my own primary education. I hope to give those memories to my students.” As her students’ faces fluctuate from huge smiles to intense concentration it is obvious Mrs Hosking offers the perfect mix of fun and challenge for all those in her care. Student Voices: Brody Reynen, 8 years – “Mrs Hosking is kind and funny. She has helped me a lot with telling time.” Jobie Ramien, 8 years – “Mrs Hosking is fun, funny and I now know my times tables better because she is such a good teacher.” Aubrey Hartog, 8 years – “I love that Mrs Hosking is so creative. She is really good at art and I like making things with her.” Juliette Quinn, 8 years – “Mrs Hosking can make anything

interesting, even the history of the First Fleet.”

5/6P News

5/6P was lucky enough to go and support 2W and 2H. Our students helped their younger peers with their art work and then played with their partners or in groups. It was a great afternoon showing our younger students how responsible 5/6P is and how important it is to be positive role models for our Year 2 students.
