NAPLAN Online

All students in years 3 & 5 across the state will be asked to participate in an online NAPLAN readiness test later this year. This test will not be scored; rather it is a trail run moving towards the 2019 introduction of online assessment. At this stage we have not been informed as to which dates our school will sit the test. We will pass this information on as soon as it is received. Included below is information provided by the Department of Education: Education ministers have agreed that NAPLAN will move online by 2019. All states, including NSW, will be involved in readiness activities this year. The activities are an opportunity for schools to become familiar with the NAPLAN Online test platform and identify any technical issues schools may have. The readiness test is not an assessment of student ability but is an opportunity for students to experience an online testing environment. NSW schools will participate in a school readiness test between 14 August and 22 September. The readiness test is a ‘practice run’ for schools to participate in a trial NAPLAN Online. The readiness test will allow schools to: ■ become familiar with the NAPLAN online test format and process. ■ check whether they have the technical capacity, rooms and devices to administer NAPLAN online. ■ provide students in NAPLAN years 3, 5, 7 & 9 with the opportunity to experience the online test question types and format. It is anticipated that the readiness test will include two assessments: a writing assessment* and a combined numeracy/literacy assessment. The duration of each assessment will be approximately 40 minutes. *Year 3 students will only be expected to complete the combined numeracy/literacy assessment.

Milton Public School Robotics Class

The robotics class started in term 2 this year. We have 18 students ranging from year 3-6. Mr Jason O’Neil and Dr Kevin Le are our mentors. We start very early at 7:30 AM every Monday morning. We bring our own lego robot to the class. We learn computer programming, engineering, science and maths by playing with our lego robots. We play problem solving games in class. Playing with technology is fun. We also buddy up with another student to form a team. We work together to find the solutions to the challenges our mentors give us. It is a great because we are learning by playing with our toys and our friends. We would like to enter the FLL (First Lego League) competition in November this year. This is an international competition where we have to build and program our robot to solve 20 challenges. We will also have to do a project to find simple innovative ways to improve the world we live in. The Robotics Team.

Messages to Students

We understand things change at the last minute sometimes, however there has been an increase in the number of parents phoning the office with arrangements for student pick-ups. Arrangements for pick-up should be organized prior to school starting to reduce class disruption.

Milton Ulladulla Little Athletics

Thank you to the Milton Ulladulla Little Athletics Association for lending us their high jump mats for training and the school athletics carnival and to Lane Williams' Dad, for transporting them to our school.
