Term 3, Week 2: 29 July 2020 Learn to Strive. Strive to Learn PRINCIPAL’S HEADLINES As we embark on term three, we can’t help but wonder what happened to term two? Hopefully we will be able to operate as normal this term. The major difference is not having Pet Day. However, we will be having an Art and Craft Day on Saturday 26 September instead. In consultation with the PTA we will have some amazing art on display in classrooms, which will be based around the theme of our local community PUKEKOHE. The students will work on one major piece during the term. The art will be judged and ribbons supplied by the PTA. The children will also be looking at financial literacy in mathematics, as there will be a marketplace in the hall where the children will be selling products they have created in their classrooms. Each class will have a space to sell their products. All students will be participating and when times are finalised we will inform you. It will include some time to view art, which will be judged and then the marketplace will open for the sale of items the children have created eg baking, stationery in a jar, crafts etc. The timeframe will be two to three hours. We did farewell Diane Harris at the end of term two at whole school assembly. We wished her success at her new school. We welcome Jacqui-May Allison-Dodds to Titoki. Jacqui-May is looking forward to having a class fulltime, as well as taking on the role of SENCo (Special Educational Needs Co- ordinator). She will be released one day a fortnight to assist students, teachers and parents. Sylvia Kavanagh is an experienced teacher and we are fortunate to have her for three days a week this term. This enables teachers and management to be released for their extra duties. Merillees Nicholls, Principal Congratulations to our Pukekohe East Bus Society raffle winners: Marg Wright ticket # 1375 sold by Clara Wielenga Ryder Dodds ticket # 0336 Thank you to all families who donated items and sold tickets for the lovely Easter hampers. OUT OF ZONE BALLOT APPLICATIONS If you are an existing school family and have a child due to start school in 2021, please make sure you have submitted your out of zone ballot application form. If you are an in zone family we still need you to complete the in zone pre- enrolment form. Forms are available on the website or at the office. The ballot closes 3.00pm Friday, 18 September. After a week of learning about Matariki Mrs A-D set us a Science, Technology, Engineering, Maths (STEM) Team Challenge. We had 30 minutes to design and construct Kaheru (Māori traditional spades) that would move as much sand as we could in 3 minutes. There were hidden bonus point potatoes too! We learned how being in a team involved give and take. We had fun learning about Matariki! CLASSROOM ORAL PRESENTATIONS Please check skool loop or the school website calendar for your child’s presentation day and time.

PRINCIPAL’S HEADLINES

As we embark on term three, we can’t help but wonder what happened to term two? Hopefully we will be able to operate as normal this term.

The major difference is not having Pet Day. However, we will be having an Art and Craft Day on Saturday 26 September instead. In consultation with the PTA we will have some amazing art on display in classrooms, which will be based around the theme of our local community – PUKEKOHE.

Jacqui-May is looking forward to having a class fulltime, as well as taking on the role of SENCo (Special Educational Needs Co-ordinator). She will be released one day a fortnight to assist students, teachers and parents.

Sylvia Kavanagh is an experienced teacher and we are fortunate to have her for three days a week this term. This enables teachers and management to be released for their extra duties.

CONGRATULATIONS TO………… Sienna Moloney who was awarded the Lion Award and Davin Harrex who received the Giraffe Award at our last Whole School Assembly. Well done!

Kauri have been learning how to write speeches since lockdown was imposed. We then had a Year 6 Speech Competition to select our person to go forward to the Franklin Speech Competition. Sienna Moloney was our winner and presented her speech ‘Choices’. Sienna also presented her speech to the whole school on the first day of Term 3 and the theme 'choices' has been taken on by the school in thinking about how we act and behave.

Congratulations to our winner Sienna Moloney and also to Annabelle Stevens, Bella Sa’o, Charlee Lundon, Harvey Clark, and Maddy Perkin who were all Highly Commended.

Kowhai class performed the sasa dance at the last Whole School Assembly. A big thank you to Mr Sa’o who helped us with all our practices.
