The following information is really important in regards to pick up and drop off for the evening performances of the concert. If you have any queries, talk to your class teacher.

Grade Meeting Places for Evening Performances Kindergarten: K1/F Year 1: 1M/1V Year 2: 2L Year 3: 3A Year 4: 4B Year 5 5JP Year 6: 6M Drama Club: 6C

Pick Up Times: We anticipate that the performance will finish at approximately 8:00 pm. We will have a better idea of this for you the week before after our final run through and we will let you know the final time. It is vital that when you pick up your child you sign them out so that we know who they have left with. The sign out tables for each grade will be at each grade’s pick up/drop off area.

CAN YOU HELP? We are looking for a few props for our concert, if you can lend us any of the following items, please let the office staff know, it would be much appreciated. We are looking for a magistrate’s wig and some plastic rats.

THANKS AND FAREWELL This is the last week of work for our Crossing Supervisor Graham as he moves to retirement and the pursuit of other interests. Graham has always been punctual, reliable and earnest in his commitment to ensuring safe passage for our school community across Darley St. On behalf of the Forestville school community, I thank Graham and wish him the very best in the future.

Many thanks for your support,

Cathie Ferguson Principal

Introducing Forrie

F.F.F.

G’day friends,

My name is Forrie and I’m Forestville Public School’s mascot.

I’m a big, soft, friendly cockatoo who spends each fortnight in a different

classroom that behaves well in assembly, so I’ve been getting to know what

goes on in and out of classrooms.

The student leadership team here has asked me to write a update each week

in the school newsletter. My column will be F.F.F. - that’s “Forrie’s Fact and

Funnies” – so look out for my blockbuster column next week about my first

overseas trip to Antarctica.

“Squark, squark”

Forrie

PS Did you know that most sulphur crested cockatoos are left handed? …..watch them and see which foot

they use to eat.

Zone Athletics 1500m Later this year in Adelaide, the Pacific Games will be held for Primary School Students. One of the events will be the 1500 metres. As a result, this event will be run at our Zone Carnival and we need some participants. We will be conducting trials Monday the 31st of July after lunch. Any students who did well in Cross Country or the 800m should consider taking part. No entry is necessary for the trial at school, just turn up on the day in your sports uniform. Please note that at the Zone carnival the 1500m race will be first up and the 800m will be the last event.

Northern Sydney Debating Camp Students in Years 4-6 are invited to participate in the Northern Sydney Debating Camp at the Collaroy Centre, held over two days during week 10 on 19th-20th September (Camp 1) and 20th-21st September (Camp 2). Students will watch demonstration debates and learn how to write and deliver an effective speech. The cost of the two day camp is $250. Places are strictly limited, so please see Mrs Wu if you are interested.

P&C Updates

The P&C has been running school banking for over 2 years with co-ordination by Vanessa R and Michelle B and their team of volunteers. Both Vanessa and Michelle need to step down from their roll with increasing working commitments. We are looking for 1 or 2 new co-ordinator(s) to take over the roll. We also need more volunteers to assist. This only takes a small amount of your time one day a week and the Commonwealth Bank will provide support on how to run the program. Your help with the program will greatly benefit students as they develop vital saving skills and also help our school with fundraising. School banking day is Thursday morning (but we are happy to consider a change in day to keep the program going) when the children can bring in their deposits from 8.30am and the volunteers collect, log and bank the funds.

Please indicate your interest in volunteering for this great program by sending an email to: [email protected]. We really need volunteers to come forward to ensure the program continues. If we cannot get enough volunteers by 31st July 2017 then unfortunately, we will need to discontinue the program. Kind regards The P&C Committee

Run Forest Run Planning is now underway for our 4th Annual Run Forest Run on Sunday 18th March 2018. Save the date!

Due to the demands of organising such an event the P&C Committee have broken up the roles so that no role is too onerous for any volunteer or group of volunteers.

From 2018, the Fair component of the event will be allocated to Stage 2 (Years 3 and 4 – as at the year of the event, so this year’s Years 2 and 3). Details of what is involved is outlined in the spreadsheet, that will be distributed by class parents this week. Class parents of those year groups will be ask to start organising their fellow parents in November this year.

For the Run itself there are 6 roles that need to be filled, two of which have already been filled by 2017 committee members carrying forward. Of course the other committee members are happy to conduct a handover and provide advice when needed.

We really need people to step up and take on these roles to ensure the continued success of this event.

The money raised from this event is crucial to the continued development and improvements to our school. Funds raised this year have already been allocated to:

improving the learning spaces of our children in the coming months (flexible learning spaces),

more technology resources (Notebook computers etc), and

playground improvements (synthetic grass in areas where grass will not grow and high pedestrian

traffic areas).

I encourage those of you who have the skills and time to contribute to please volunteer. We need our community to come together again.

If you can help or have any questions, please email [email protected].

Kind regards The P&C Committee
