Next P&C Meeting The next P&C meeting will be held on Thursday 29
th
August at 4pm in the school staffroom. There are a number of things on the agenda which will be of interest to all parents. Planning for our Trivia Night and Spring Fair will also be discussed. The committee also hope to fill the remaining executive positions. Please come along if you can spare one hour for your child’s school – this will help build up a parent support base which is very much needed to: fundraise; get community feedback; allow staff to liaise with our parent body; and work together to educate our kids.
Trivia Night The 13
th September is sneaking up on us! We have
had a very favourable response to the trivia night being held at Bomaderry Bowling Club on Friday 13
th
September, 7pm. Tickets are $10.00 per person and the tables/teams are for 10 people. Please consider getting some family, friends, fellow-parents together for a fun night of trivia, prizes and fundraising. Tickets are available at the office or an envelope with names, ticket cost and contact number can be sent in to school with your child. Looking forward to seeing many of you there – don’t forget a few extra gold coins to “buy” answers from Miss Smarty Pants or Miss Know-It-All !!!
Spring Fair The Bomaderry P&C Spring Fair will be held here at school on October 27
th. You will see our new banners
advertising the event around town – make sure your neighbours, family and friends know all about it!
Donations – Knick-Knacks and Books Please Prior to the date we will be taking donations of items for our White Elephant Stall (goodies in good condition!) and our Second Hand Book Stall (adults and/or children’s books). Please send any donations to the school. If you are able to help on the Sausage Sizzle or in the Canteen on the day, please see the P&C. It is going to be a HUGE fun day on the school oval.
Keep aiming high and have a great week at BPS.

Dear Parents and Carers
KT Staff News Congratulations to Ms Lauren Harris and Mrs Gemma Tunks. Both members of our teaching staff are taking on slightly different roles at BPS starting today. Mrs Tunks will be handing over responsibility for teaching KT to Ms Harris, whilst she works with staff. Some of Mrs Tunk’s focuses will include: Literacy teaching support; embedding Aboriginal perspectives in learning; school data collection; and preparation for our 2014 Kindergarten Orientation sessions. Ms Harris is thrilled to have the opportunity to teach a class fulltime and to work alongside our Infants staff. We welcome both ladies to their new roles and look forward to seeing the success they will both bring.
Eisteddfod Success Congratulations to ALL of our eisteddfod performers over the past two weeks. I had the front board at school changed to shout our success to the ‘rooftops’ because it was such a great display of skill and enjoyment from staff and students. Included in our tally of prizes and commendations, were three FIRST place trophies – drama group, musical performance and dance performance. WOW! Thank you once again to Mrs Julia Armstrong who encourages such a high level of participation in the eisteddfod each year, as well as all other areas of the Performing Arts.
Primary Art Lesson Opportunity Some Years 3-6 students may have arrived home on Friday with a note explaining an art opportunity here at BPS after school (Tuesdays, starting on August 27).The lessons are aimed at skilled students with a keen interest and talent in visual art – drawing, painting and creating. 10 lessons are on offer for a very small total of $50.00. The first 20 students with their notes and fees returned will be enrolled. If you require further information, please contact the school or send in a note to your child’s teacher.
Quality Work Indra, Robert, Alec, Ajay and Brock from SL visited my office last week with amazing collages depicting their families. I enjoyed guessing who each of the family members were (including cats and dogs)! Mrs King and Mrs Hewitt are very impressed with the confidence shown by these students and the high levels of learning they are achieving each day. Keep up the great work, SL. The other piece of high quality work I was thrilled to share last week was the “Wombat Stew” cooked up by SR! SR used the wonderful text be Marcia Vaughan to follow the procedure and create the well-known goop! I was very pleased that the students stopped Mrs Bridge from tasting it!
Shoalhaven Music Festival Students from Years 3, 4, 5 and 6 will take part in the annual Shoalhaven Music Festival on Thursday 5th September at 7.30pm held at Nowra High School hall. Tickets are available from the school office and sell out very quickly for this popular event. Cost $6.00. Seating from 7pm. No numbered seats. There will be an all day rehearsal at Nowra High School on Wednesday 4th September. Look out for the permission note. Buses to this rehearsal will be free - subsidised by Shoalhaven Music Festival. In maths we have been learning about
conducting surveys and organising our data
using tables.
One of the outcomes from our mathematics
studies is that the students have learned to
“gather and organise data, display data using
tables and graphs and interpret the results”.
One of the activities we did recently was to
record a list of the names in our class to find
which number of letters is the most common.
Our teacher, Miss Wallace, has expected us
to complete quality work such as ensuring that
we gather and record data accurately.
Our Quality Work stars have demonstrated
their ability to construct well thought out
questions for our class survey.
We enjoyed finding out information about
other students most popular TV shows
through conducting a survey.

Riversdale Visit with author Jo Oliver
On Tuesday August 13th forty five students travelled
by bus to meet Jo Oliver, author in residence at
Riversdale, Bundanon. Jo has written some beautiful
books based on her experiences on the south coast of
NSW. The students listened to Jo read her latest book,
“The Light”, based on the lighthouse on Montague
Island offshore from Narooma. Jo also talked about
some of the inspirations for her writing and her
methods of illustrating, including linocut. It was a
gorgeous day and apart from Jo’s informative talk we
had lunch and a play in this beautiful setting by the
Shoalhaven River.

The Important Tick The Tick program is the Heart
Foundation’s guide to help you make
healthier food choices quickly and
easily. Foods with the Tick are healthier choices
among foods of their type. Tick foods are lower in
fat, saturated fat, sodium (salt) and where
appropriate, kilojoules. Some are also higher in
fibre. All foods are independently tested and

Student Medical Forms During Terms 3 and 4 we will be updating our medical records systems to ensure we have the most up-to-date information on your child’s health.
If you have a child with a medical condition you will receive a copy of the new forms and will need to fill them out and return them to us as soon as you can.
The new forms will help us to collect your child’s important medical information and the introduction of new systems will mean we’ll be able to better manage the daily and emergency health needs of your child.
We appreciate your support as we start collecting the information, and if you have any questions please call the office on 4421 6577.
- Class 5/6DB -
In maths we have been learning about Fair Testing
and writing Scientific Procedures.
One of the outcomes from the mathematics studies
is that the students have learned to calculate
simple percentages of quantities.
One of the activities we did recently was to
conduct a Fair Test with the hypothesis being
when making Rocky Road if we replace chocolate
with condensed milk then it will still resemble
conglomerate rock. We discovered our hypothesis
was wrong and it does not still resemble
conglomerate rock but we still enjoyed eating it
afterwards. We took photos of the results and
wanted to share them with you.
Our teacher, Mrs Brown, has expected us to
complete quality work such as publishing our
scientific procedures and conducting the Fair Test.
The stars who produced quality work are all of
5/6DB because they wrote and published the
procedure, carried out the fair test following the
method and worked safely and cooperatively in
groups.
This term we are also going to be conducting more
fair tests in Science to do with erosion and erosion
controls.
Mrs Brown - Class Teacher
“Peace Run” Visit
We were lucky enough to
have a visit from the
“Peace Run” participants
last week, culminating in a
whole school assembly where we heard about the
participants, took part in their torch relay and
listened to their message of “peace”. It was a
colourful day where students and staff dressed in
their class colours - ultimately creating a rainbow
across the school.
Thank you to all of the students who took part and
contributed a gold coin. These funds will be used
for the Year 6 farewell function later in the year.
