continually praised for their outstanding effort in representing our school in the Creative Arts. These students have been practising since the beginning of the term and have put in a lot of effort. Thank you to Mrs Julia Armstrong for all of your hard work organising this opportunity and practising with our students. Thank you to all the parents for all of your hard work and for supporting Bomaderry Public School. We had so much fun and our students were able to make new friends and gain new experiences. Miss Rebecca Gallagher
A thank you to the 3000 plus students who worked tirelessly with the staff from our schools to produce a show of excellence and quality. These students will take the friendships made and skills learned from their experience in Southern Stars and look upon their time in the show with much fondness well into the future. Ian Millard - Southern Stars Executive Producer
Quality Work
Here at BPS, we celebrate work which has been achieved after explicit criteria is explained to the class. Before the lesson, teachers explicitly explain what students will be striving to learn/demonstrate. When students work really hard to achieve this criteria, we label it ‘quality work’. Tamika and Paige from 5/6H were working on multiplying areas in centimetres. They used mental strategies to solve acts, used multiplicative language and partitioned facts strategically to play a game. Kalissa and Alira in 5/6B planned a narrative by using the elements of the planning process, were thinking as authors and used detailed information to support the writing process. Rocco from K-6D did high quality writing about the character, Grug. He wrote a description using uniform lettering and self-edited his work.
Christopher, Jessica, Leela, Jack, Paige and Lateisha from 5/6S did great mathematical problem
solving last week using multiplication strategies and
explaining their thinking and solutions.

‘Kicking’ our Learning Goals Every BPS student has individual learning goals and they strive to achieve these every day. It is with great pride and excitement, that students visit the Principal’s office to celebrate the achievement of these goals. Students talk about how they achieved their goals, who helped them, what they plan to achieve next – it is a very special time. Kya from 3/4S achieved her literacy goal last week and is now very proud to be reading level 22 texts. Bowen from K-6G can write his first name correctly and Liam can read his list of ‘first sight words’. Cassie and Chloe from 3/4G can both read level 24 texts. Skye has been awarded her pen licence and Isabella knows her 4 times tables.
Southern Stars Following are reports from BPS classroom teacher, Miss Rebecca Gallagher, and the Southern Stars Executive Producer, Ian Millard, about the production. On August 30th - September 1st, nine of our support students from Bomaderry Public participated in the Southern Stars disABILTY dance. They danced to the iconic song, ‘Redback on the Toilet Seat’. Our students did such an incredible job and were
Term 3 - Week 8 10th September 2018
Canberra Emily and Amelia from 5/6B have written a report about the Stage 3 Canberra excursion and this is included in today’s newsletter.
‘Steptember’ As I mentioned last week, Emily in 5/6S and a number of staff members are participating in ‘Steptember’, to raise funds for the Cerebral Palsy Foundation. As well as walking 10,000 steps each day, Emily has organised a guessing competition and raffle for students. A 50c ticket at the canteen could win a student one of a number of $5.00 canteen vouchers (these were very generously donated by Meagan’s Kitchen) and a correct guess of the number of jellybeans could win you a very sizeable jar of jellybeans! Raffle tickets are available at the canteen and Emily will be selling guesses in playtimes.
BOOSHC News Many community members would already know that our Before and After School Care company, BOOSHC will close their doors at the end of this term. Nikki and Marie have provided this valuable and much-loved service for many years and it is with a heavy heart that we will farewell them in a few weeks’ time. Demand for these services ebb and flow and other providers enter the market. At this time, the demand here onsite is not substantial enough to make it viable. Our regular BOOSHC attendees are already aware of this news, but I wanted to share this with other members of our community. I am sure you will join us in thanking our BOOSHC team for the wonderful care they have provided during their long ‘reign’ at BPS. Thank you, Marie and Nikki, and all of the past and present staff. We will miss you.

PACER Program
As you are aware our Stage 3 students recently
undertook an educational tour of the national capital.
Whilst on this tour they participated in a variety of
educational programmes focused on Australia’s
history, culture, heritage and democracy.
The Australian Government recognises the
importance of all young Australians being able to
visit their National Capital as part of their civics and
citizenship education. To assist parents in meeting
the costs of the excursion the Australian Government
has contributed funding of $20 per student under the
Parliament and Civics Education Rebate (PACER)
program toward the travel expenses incurred. This
contribution will be paid directly to the school.
We would like to thank the Australian Government
for their support of this program.

Stage 3 Canberra Excursion
In Week 6, most of Stage 3 went to Canberra for an
awesome excursion to learn about government,
rights, sport, science and fun. We went to the
following places: Old Parliament House, Parliament
House, Australian Institute of Sport, National
Museum of Australia, AMF bowling, The War
Memorial and Questacon.
We had a lot of fun and learnt lots, we hope
everyone loved it and learnt as much as they could
and are happy to be back to share
the experience with family and
friends. A special thanks to
Jessica and Connor for laying the
wreath at the Last Post Ceremony
at the National War Memorial.

Healthy Eating Lettuce wraps are a good way
to pack a lot of veggies into a
meal. Chop up any vegetables
you have such as carrots,
celery, and capsicum. Add
spices to your liking and sauté it all together. If you
don’t have the time, the chopped veggies can also be
served raw. Pile the mixture onto lettuce leaves and
serve. It becomes an interactive and fun way for kids
to eat. Try adding chicken, tuna, or egg salad for a
boost of protein!
