Bookweek Parade
A huge thank you to everyone who contributed to the success of our fabulous Bookweek Parade last week.
Unfortunately, due to the date change, I had a prior commitment in Sydney and missed the fun and spirit of the
day. Thank you to all those parents, staff and most importantly students who contributed to a fun day in so many
ways.
School Celebrations
This coming Friday will be another big day for our students. Breakfast celebrating the important role that
“Marvellous men” play in Education will be held in the COLA area near the office. Breakfast will be served from
6.30am till 8.30am.
During the day, all students will have the opportunity to buy from the Father’s day stall. These gifts are inexpensive
and my experience is that no matter what age, students love to buy from the school stalls for their Mother, Father
or significant other. Thank you to our parent volunteers for organising and running this stall.
At 9.30 am, we are holding our mini-school concert. Our students love to perform and we are looking forward to the
opportunity to share our children’s achievements across the school in a range of extracurricular areas.
Staff professional development
Last Wednesday night, staff were involved in an additional session of professional development. Staff have been
engaged in these extended sessions across the year, in lieu of the last two pupil free days of the year. As these
days are normally pupil free days, staff presence at school does not impact on students attending the school. The
benefit of trading these days off is that staff are able to engage in the required ongoing professional learning
throughout the year to benefit your child, rather than wait till the end of the year. Learning and using new skills is

a much more powerful model than learning new skills or refreshing skills and then going on a long break without the
chance to practice and reflect.
Last Wednesday, staff engaged in processes of analysing student data and how this information can impact
positively on every student’s learning. Staff also spent some time increasing awareness and understanding of the
National Professional Standards for Teachers. If you are interested in more information about these standards,

Well, what a fabulous day we had celebrating Book Week and the joy of books. Thank you so much to our amazing
Warners Bay community. Every year I am astounded by the ingenuity you display in organising book character
costumes. Thank you also to everyone who came to share in our parade. We all had such a fun time and hope you did
too. Now enjoy the photos at the end of the Newsletter highlighting the great day we had.

Year 1 Alicia Isley; Year 2 Heidi Badior; Year 3 Lucy Young; Year 4 Kate Tibbs; Year 5 Hollie Finley; Year 6 Luke

set up in the middle car park between Warners Bay Rd and Kings Street.

Book Week Parade
Book Week was held last Thursday and it was a huge success. It was fantastic to see all of the children coming
dressed as their favourite characters. We would like to thank all of the parents and special guests for coming to
watch the parade.
Father’s Day Breakfast
We would like to invite all the Dads and Family/Friends in the community that play a significant part in our student’s
lives, to help celebrate Father’s Day. The celebrations will start on Friday 4th September at 6:30 am with a free
cooked breakfast. The breakfast will conclude at 9 am. We can’t wait to see everyone there.
Mini Concert
The school will be holding a mini concert on Friday 4th September at 9:30 am in the hall. It will enable the whole
school community to see how hard some of our students have been rehearsing in the extra-curricular activities that
we offer at Warners Bay Public School.
What’s happening in K-2B?
Welcome to Week 8. Term 3 has really flown by and we are soon
heading into school holidays. K-2B has had an amazing term. A
continued favourite is our weekly cooking lessons. Students have had
the opportunity to try new and exciting ingredients.
I would like to take the opportunity to thank all of our parents that
support our students at school and at home. I can’t wait to see what
Term 4 will bring.
Thanks
Mark Berger

Stage Two News
Incursion Reminder: 3W, 4OP, and 3M are all going to the Great Barrier Reef (well, virtually) on Wednesday 2
September. They are being transported from the connected classroom, to the underwater realm of the Great
Barrier Reef to learn all about reef eco-systems. Please get any outstanding payments or permission notes in as soon
as possible. 3/4J and 4T have already gone, and they learnt a lot about why the reef is so important and some
interesting facts they may be able to share with you.
Resources: Many students are now coming to school without pencils or glue sticks. Children need to bring 2 lead
pencils, 1 red pen, an eraser, a ruler and a glue-stick to school each day. Please make sure your child has the
resources they need. So much class time can be wasted looking for replacements when students don’t bring in what
they need.
Sport Day: Just a reminder that Stage 2 sport day is Wednesday. Can you please ensure your child is wearing the
appropriate footwear (black running shoes) so they can participate fully in our sports program.
Nits: Unfortunately, it’s that time of year again when nits appear in greater numbers. Can you please check your
child and if nits are found, please treat them before returning them to class. Otherwise they spread very easily.

Aussie Bush Camp: Everything is underway for a fantastic Year 4 excursion next week. However, we still have a few
outstanding payments and notes. Please get these into the office as soon as possible. And get packing! Don’t leave it
to the last minute and make sure you take everything on the checklist.
Don’t forget the Father’s Day BBQ this Friday, followed by the mini-concert in the Hall at 9:30am. The Fathers’
Day stall will be on, so make sure your child brings $2-$10 to spend and a shopping bag to contain the gift.
The Author visit, which was delayed, will also be on Friday – what a busy day that will be!

What’s happening in 3/4J?
Well, we’ve been having a fantastic time in 3/4J this term. It’s great to be back in class with such a fantastic group
of students. Congratulations to all the Year 3s who showed their brilliant colours in the NAPLAN results this year.
Well done! This term has been very busy with learning about poetry, writing amazing complex sentences, reading,
spelling, learning addition and subtraction strategies, our multiplication facts, volume, 2D shapes, ukulele, art, and
sport (just to mention a few things!), and in amidst all that, 3/4J has learned about water safety, first aid and how
not to be a bully. And it’s only Week 8!
Congratulations also to all the students who dressed up as book characters last week. What a great parade! The
students also loved reading to their buddies in 1M.
There’s only 3 weeks left to the term and we have so much more to fit in, and next week all of the Year 4s and I will
be going to Aussie Bush Camp. I’m getting very excited about it, as are most of the students. The Year 3s are
showing very faint signs of green but they’ll get their chance next year.
There are still a couple of outstanding payments, and 2 outstanding Permission/Information sheets. We need these
before Friday this week. Don’t forget, we head off next Monday morning! While we are at Bush Camp, the Year 3s
will be split between the other Year 3 classes to continue their expected school work.
As a result of the themed Fridays, where students are largely participating in self-directed learning, we have had
some very impressive projects in the first half of this term, and I’m looking forward to seeing what the students
come up with on their “Journey to the Centre of the Earth”. Lots of research was happening on Friday, and I’m sure
we are going to have another successful bunch of projects.

Stage Three News
All students looked excellent in costume last week for our book week parade. This Wednesday we have a disco
coming up for primary starting at 7pm. All students are to be picked up by parents at 8:30pm sharp from inside of
the hall. We require parents to come inside of the hall for student safety at this time of night. Students will not be
permitted to leave without their parent or caregiver.
Also this Friday we have our Father's Day breakfast BBQ starting at 6:30am. Then we
will be starting our mini concert performance in the hall at 9:30am for dance, choir,
aerobics, drums, guitar and signing choir.
Throughout Friday, classes will also be attending the Father's Day stall.
What’s happening in 5B?
5B have had a wonderful time dressing up in their favourite book week characters and
participating in our whole school parade. They have also been working hard learning about
government and Canberra. We have also been creating some informative power point
presentations that they will soon deliver to the class on their upcoming excursion
destinations.
