Rosie - 20 November
Lake Ainsworth ExcursionOur senior excursion commenced yesterday amid a flurry of excitement and last
minute goodbyes. We packed all our bags into our convoy of cars and off we
drove with some squeals of anticipation. We arrived at Lake Ainsworth about
10am yesterday morning, set up our cabins and were put in our activity groups.
Here is what the students have had to say so far:
*Paige – I like raft building the best because it was fun and I got to build a raft
with my friends.
*Jacinta – I loved the night games because we got to play fun games.
*Gemma-Rose – I loved the bunk beds in our cabins and we get to sleep with our
friends.
*Kamahla – I like the curry.
*Josie – I loved the SUP (Stand up Paddle) boards on the lake even though I fell
off.
*Shelby – When I was walking to Marine studies. It was so HOT! I thought by the
time I got there I’m going to need a smaller size wet suit.
Kinder OrientationWhat a wonderful group of new Kinder students we have joining us next year. This
Tuesday we had all 11 new students join us for their first whole day at big school.
Mr Wells was extremely pleased with the way the boys and girls settled into the
classroom routine. He said he was very impressed with how they participated in
completing some wonderful work.
That is our last orientation day for the year, so now
we look forward to seeing their smiling faces when
we return in 2020. A reminder that all our new

students are invited to join us for our Presentation Night
at the school on Thursday 12 December.
It is important that we recognise our older students who
did a magnificent job in
showing the new students
our playground routines
and keeping an eye on
them to ensure they
felt safe and happy to join in playground activities.
Intensive SwimmingOur Intensive Swimming Program is ready to commence
next week as per our Term 4 calendar. We have had
news that the Woodburn Pool has been undergoing
some upgrades over a number of weeks but Richmond
Valley Council has indicated that it should be ready for
our swimmers next week. Like Woodburn School we
have opted to commence on Tuesday of next week,
NOT Monday. This is to ensure work is completed. This
arrangement will have little impact on our 2 week program
other than to extend the session on Friday 6 Dec.
If you can help at all with swimming
groups, please complete the sheet
attached to this newsletter and return
to the office by tomorrow.
Parents are able to travel on the bus
to the pool sessions if they wish.
Kindergarten Teacher 2020After an extensive process of preparing the advertisement,
reading CVs and applications (12) and grading applicants,
this week we invited our final two applicants to interview.
Mr Wells was one of our final two applicants and whilst
unsuccessful in maintaining the position for next year, he
presented himself admirably during interview. Mr Wells
is a very dedicated teacher and has been a wonderful
addition to our school over the past 6 months. He has
had a positive impact on the students’ learning and well-
being this year.
Mrs Bronwyn Cole who has worked in a permanent
capacity at Southern Cross Community School for a
number of years was our second applicant and she has
been successful in securing the position. Mrs Cole has
been a Kindergarten teacher for the past two years and
previously worked in special education. She brings a high
level of experience and skills to the Kinder position and
we look forward to Mrs Cole joining us in 2020.
Ms Beattie has also decided to accept an offer to teach
full time at Emmanuel Anglican College in Ballina next
year. Ms Beattie has been with us at Broadwater on a
temporary basis for over two years now and we will miss
her dedication and commitment to her teaching and the
students.
Presentation NightOur 2019 Presentation Night has been scheduled for
Thursday 12 December on the back playground. Parents
are asked to add this important date to their diaries. As
in previous years, we will commence with a picnic on the
grass where we invite families to bring along their dinner,
chairs and blankets. The awards
ceremony will commence at
approximately 5:45pm. Parents
are asked to bring along a plate

to share for supper. Tea and coffee will be provided by our
P&C.
We would like to invite our new 2020 Kindergarten families
to join us for this wonderful evening of presentations and
awards. Our P&C will be making a presentation to all our
new Kinder students so we hope you can join us on this
special evening.
Christmas Cash RaffleThe P&C are running a Christmas Cash Raffle this year. Each
family will receive a small book of 6 tickets. Tickets are on
sale for $5 each and the prizes are as follows:
1st Prize: $350 2nd Prize: $150 3rd Prize: $50
The raffle will be drawn at our Presentation Night on
Thursday 12 December. Extra ticket books will be available
to collect from the office if families want to sell more than
six tickets. All funds raised go directly to the P&C and are
used to support the school and students so please try and
sell all your allocated tickets.
Local FiresOur local Department of Education has been in regular
contact with the RFS and we are being updated on the
state of the local fires on a daily basis. We are mindful that
a change in weather conditions can quite easily change
the fire situation. Currently the Wardell fire situation is
considered “quite safe” and the Myall
Creek fire is “watch and act” (currently
creating issues for Harwood, Chatsworth
Island and Iluka Schools).
UniformsWe are still waiting on delivery of our year 6 shirts,
however all other uniform stock has arrived. Those families
who who have ordered uniforms for 2020, please contact
Helen Patterson on 0487 661 768 to organise payment and
delivery.
Thank you, Helen.
Mr Wells - MovemberAcross the world, men die an average six years younger
than women, and for reasons that are largely preventable.
Movember is the only charity tackling men’s health on
a global scale, year round. We’re addressing some of
the biggest health issues faced by men: prostate cancer,
testicular cancer, mental health and suicide prevention.
It is Movember Foundation’s aim to reduce the number of
men dying prematurely by 25%.
Mr Wells has made a commitment to the Movember
charity by growing a mo-gnificent moustache.
So far Mr Wells has raised $195 with the aim of $1000. To
take things a step further, if Mr Wells reaches $1500 he
will wax his armpits. OUCH!!
If you would like to contribute to the fundarising, donations
can be made straight to Mr Wells, or to the Broadwater
Public School Movember fundraising link below:
