From the Principal's pen

So, what’s next?

I don’t know what your personality is like, but mine tends to be a bit of a ‘what’s next?’ type of guy. I look forward to the next opportunity, the next challenge, and even (don’t cringe), the next meeting. As you can (or maybe you can't) imagine, this is an exciting time to be a part of the Burdekin Christian College community. There are plenty of 'what's next?' type of situations to keep a guy like me occupied.

Daily, we witness first-hand God's provision for our College as He continues to go before us to prepare the way. Our building program is progressing well. It is essential to have this infrastructure in place for College growth. God is also building a committed and dedicated staff which is my honour and privilege to lead. We all have the awe-some opportunity to be the “Head, Heart and Hands” of God in this place, for such a time as this.

As a learning institution, it is important to recognise that it is not just the students that are here to learn. Burdekin Christian College is a growing, living organism which includes the Board members, admin-istration team, teachers, ancillary staff members, students, the mem-bers of the Burdekin Community Church - and YOU. We are all partnering together, as lifelong learners, with a goal to make a godly difference in the lives of children and each other.

I am committed to bring you the ‘what’s next?’ in AyrWaves each fortnight to keep you in the loop. However, as things progress, we need and so appreciate your continued support and prayer, as we part-ner together to see this College continue to grow. We will be ‘Stronger Together’ as we stand united in Christ throughout this ex-citing next chapter.

With Christian Education, we do things differently because it matters (to us and God). We all want our children to have purpose in this world. Burdekin Christian College offers you and other local families education from a Christian perspective which is distinctly different to what is being offered by our secularised society. Let’s not be afraid to embrace this culture, and be committed to stand with arms linked together as a Christian community, and do life together well.

TenPin Bowling Success Written by Year 9 student Corrin Johnston

On the 17, 18 and 19 September, seven students from BCC participated in the Intercity Zone Ten Pin Bowling Competition held in Townsville. Teams represented Mackay, Burdekin, Townsville and Cairns.

BCC bowlers were: Austin Patterson, Jarrod Walton, Josh Ka-minski, Lavina Worner, Tyeasha Worner, Corrin Johnston and Jada Henaway. Each Centre had four teams, bowling in handi-cap mens and ladies and scratch mens and ladies (except for Mackay who only had a scratch team).

Everyone bowled really well with Lavina coming fourth and Tyeasha coming fifth in Handicap Ladies. Austin came elev-enth, Jarrod twelfth and Josh fourteenth in Handicap Mens. Corrin came fourteenth and Jada came nineteenth in Scratch Womens.

Lavina and Tyeasha both made the All Stars Team for placing in the top 5 overall – congratulations girls!!!

A great weekend was enjoyed by all, even the parents who helped cheer the bowlers on!

Next year the competi-tion will be held in Cairns.

Soccer Excellence Congratulations to senior College student, Ethan Cornelius, who was awarded the Gerard Ham Memorial Trophy For Outstand-ing Sportmanship Under 10—15 at a recent soccer presentation. Resiliency Robbers Robber #6

Neglect to develop independence.

Don’t wait until they are teenagers to develop the skills of inde-pendent living. Start early and promote a broad skill set so that they can look after themselves if you are not around.

Resilience notion #6 – Don’t routinely do for your children what they can do for themselves.

Swimming Lessons Permission forms will be out soon informing parents of the dates Prep to Year 6 students will be down at the Ayr Pool honing their skills in preparation for the Pool Fun Day (29 November 2016) and the Inter-House Swimming Carnival (February 2017).

Musical Instruments Do you have an instrument sitting in your shed gathering dust? Does Grandma or Grandad have an instrument they would like to see utilised? Perhaps you would consider donating it to the College for the music program. Please let the office staff know if you do have a treasure you would like to see put to good use.

Preppies on Tour BCC Prep students recently completed their ‘Around the World’ unit and celebrated with a morning tea with their parents and grandparents. Students proudly showed the visitors the results of all their hard work during Term 3. The Preppies then enjoyed an ‘around the world’ morn-ing tea with their special guests, prepared by Prep Teacher Miss Brooke Vucetic and Prep Teacher Aide Mrs Ronda Downs.

Karen Wilson, had the film clips of the songs playing on the large projector screen and the students were delighted to dance along with their favourite characters from Madagascar, The Wiggles and so many more. The Student Council operated a food and drink stall and

some of our energetic secondary students volunteered their time to dance along with the ELC students. After the huge success of the first ELC Disco, Mrs Wilson is hoping to have an ELC Disco each term.
