BREAC Games at Anson Street

On Thursday the 24th October 12 young men from Years 8 through to 10 spent the day at Anson

Street school running games with the students. The boys independently ran the games and

made sure all students were able to participate. The most exciting part of the day for the boys

was during recess where they were able to play a game of cricket with the Anson Street

students. Even though it was a very hot day in the sun, the boys continued to give each activity

100 percent effort. The boys exhibited the qualities of an exemplary Canobolas Rural

Technology High School student.

Around the World in 60 Days Year 7 Mantis have caught the travelling bug and are exploring all the ins and outs of planning

an overseas trip! Their destination of choice is currently Spain, learning the local lingo and

sampling traditional cuisine. They were excited to try their hand at making albondigas, Spanish

meatballs, and proved themselves to be exceptional cooks. Olé!

NEWS FROM BIG PICTURE Big Picture students clean up John Lomas Skate Park

As part of the Big Picture Education

design, students are required to

engage in social action through

collaborative service learning activities.

These are designed to foster key

personal qualities including initiative

and leadership skills, cooperation and

communication, awareness of others

and overall developing a sense of

active responsibility for our greater

community.

On the last day of Term 3, 2019, Thomas

Mackenzie (Year 9) coordinated a

morning of action with the junior

advisory, taking responsibility to clean up the rubbish and discarded bike and scooter parts

from the creek and area surrounding the John Lomas Skate Park.

Miss Penberthy drove the Canobolas bus, loaded with Big Picture students to the skate park

where they enthusiastically combed the murky waters of the creek, collected rubbish from the

grassed areas and cleared the cement surfaces of broken glass and other debris to enhance

the safety of all users.

A total of eleven bags of rubbish were filled and removed from the area with students leaving

the park far better than they found it, again demonstrating the willingness of our Big Picture

students to have a significant positive impact on our local community both physically and

socially.

Well done Thomas and his peers.

Ms J Penberthy— Big Picture Advisory Teacher

During Term 4, students in Yrs 7-10 have the opportunity to be involved in a swimming

program as part of school sport. Students will need to return their permission notes as soon as

possible to attend the swimming program this term. It is a great opportunity for students and a

great way to stay cool as the weather is heating up! Students who do not wish to attend the

program will complete a summer safety booklet in a classroom during sport time as well as on

campus sport options. Students will attend the swimming program in the below organisation:

Year 7 and 8: Thursday Period 3 and 4 Year 9 and 10: Tuesday Period 3 and 4

The 2019 Schools Spectacular is just a short month away and

Canobolas High School are proud to be taking two dance groups this

year; the Combined Dance group and the Aboriginal Dance group.

On Tuesday the 15th of October, the combined

Schools Spectacular dancers set off bright and

early for their first rehearsal at Cowra High

School. Having only learnt a short sequence of

movement from the videos sent to us, the

dancers had a lot of choreography to learn.

The students were taught

alongside other Western region

high school students and were

exceptionally behaved throughout

the day. They managed to get

through most of their section with

lots of choreography to practice

back at school!

Well done to the 10 dancers who demonstrated an excellent ability to

pick up choreography and show their commitment and dedication

towards this years Schools

Spectacular!

Wednesday 23rd October saw Canobolas High School’s 7/8 Boys and Girls Touch Football

teams compete at the 7/8 All Schools Carnival in Orange. It was a perfect day for competition

and both sides were eager to get out on the field. Both teams displayed great sportsmanship

over the course of the day.

The girls team only having seven players show up started strongly winning their opening two

games against Wellington High School and St Matthews Mudgee. The girls then came up

against a strong James Sheahan side who outran the girls. They backed up to face Orange

High School where again the girls ran out of legs with only one sub. The girls then played Blayney

High school winning a close game 5-3. They finished the day against Wellington High to ensure

everyone had played enough games, the girls used their speed to run out convincing 6-0

winners. This placed them in 3rd position overall at the end of the day. Hayley Murphy, Manaia

Nixon and Mackenzie Palazzi were great in attack throughout the day with Bethany Powell

being the best defender.

The boys team started the day well with a nice win over Wellington High School 7-3. the

continued this winning form over the next four games defeating Blayney High School, St

Matthews Mudgee, Oberon High School and Orange Christian School. In their final game of the

day the boys came up against Orange High School who were also undefeated. It was a fast

paced game with both sides exchanging tries. Orange High in the end ran out winners 6-4. This

placed the boys in 2nd place overall after a big day of touch football. Nate Davis led from the

front in attack and defence, with Harry Greenhalgh working hard in all games. Harrison Kukla

was great on the wing scoring some nice tries after great lead up work from the team.

A big thank you to Max Wilson and Dylan Birks for refereeing throughout the day. Thank you to

Mr Francey and Miss Somers for organising and coaching on the day.

Miss M Somers—PDHPE teacher

Exhibition Extravaganza

Year 8 had their exhibitions last week for Art of War and Crimes Against Nature. On Wednesday,

students exhibited and discussed their work about Vikings and Medieval Europe. Students

presented models of board games, replica shields and helmets.

On Friday, students conducted an expo to present their research and findings about

endangered animals. The whole school was invited to come and see their presentations and

vote for which presentation and booth was best. The winning group's animal will be supported

through school fundraisers in 2020.
