End of Year Class Celebrations The end of year reward picnic days will be held this Thursday. I know that teachers have been corresponding with families about these for quite some time and payments, permission notes etc. have been chased up and collated. Please be sure to send along all sun-safe necessities on the day to ensure it is a safe and enjoyable day for those who are taking part. Supervision and other fun activities will continue here at school for those who are not attending the outings. Remember also, attendance at these events is dependent on some pre-requisites . . . including behaviour and participating in school programs such as home reading. These would have been communicated to all students and parents leading up to the cut-off day for payments. Part of the purpose of the outings is to reward students for this hard work and effort. Congratulations. Quality Work It is almost our last week to celebrate the quality work which is demonstrated each week at BPS. Last week was certainly no exception. Emelia from SR created a skilful retell of a narrative using excellent punctuation. Casey from KT shared his well- written riddle with me. It was a “What Am I?” riddle and the clues were so good that I guessed it right away! Will, Aylah, Max and Corey from 1/2H really impressed myself and Ms Hoskins with their ability to work together in a team to complete their Mathematics work. They matched money amounts to items, worked collaboratively and presented their work neatly. Great job.! Annual Swimming Carnival Please don’t forget that next Monday December 16 th is the date for our school swimming carnival. Capable swimming competitors are invited to attend and swim in races for their age group. This carnival is the Summer carnival for 2014, which means Year 6 will not attend. They will swim at their high school carnival early in the Year 7 calendar. Permission notes have now been collected. Please follow these up with your child if they are a competitive swimmer and you have not yet responded. If you are able to help on the day with timekeeping, please let us know at the front office – we would really appreciate your support. P&C News The P&C committee would like to invite ALL parents and families to an end of year meeting and afternoon tea THIS Thursday 12 th December. It will be a celebratory afternoon, reflecting on the success of 2013 and thanking all involved. Please come along at 4pm to show your support of the school and the volunteers who help. Dear Parents and Carers Presentation Day Thank you to all of our families, community members and business partners who joined with us last Tuesday for our Presentation Assembly. The attendance rate of parents was “through the roof”. We had a number of parents discussing the need to extend our hall to accommodate all of the guests! It was really special to see so many of you here to celebrate the success of 2014. Apologies for the heat and to those who had to stand – more seating next year. There were certainly some very special highlights this year at the assembly. Annika was awarded a PRIME MINISTER’S medal! Annika entered a short story writing competition earlier in the year. It was a NAIDOC week theme about ‘Our First Australians’. Annika’s writing was entered into a competition with thousands of other entrants. Twenty medals were presented across NSW – one of them being for Annika. Congratulations again Annika, this is a very special achievement and your school community is very proud of you. Our 2014 school leaders were also announced. Congratulations to Benjamin and Miette who will captain our students next year. Congratulations to Bradley who will be our boy vice- captain, and also a historic congratulations to Annika and Tykia who will jointly take on the role of girls vice- captain. I mentioned at our Presentation Day that I am very impressed already with our leadership team and am looking forward to working closely with them all in 2014. Well done! The P&C presented the school with a very ‘sizeable’ cheque during our presentation also. We thank the P&C for this very positive contribution and also thank all of our community who supported the fundraising efforts during 2014. Your combined time and passion has resulted in $10,000 for our students. THANK YOU. Christmas Door Competition Competition is really hotting up around the school as classes and staff work on decorating their doors with a Christmas theme. Secret judges are coming to the school TOMORROW which means all doors will be ‘fancied up’ by then. A great time to come and have a look. Term 4 - Week 10 9th December 2013

P&C NEWS

The final P&C meeting will be on Thursday 12th December at 4.00pm in the staff room. Afternoon tea provided.

ALL WELCOME!

- Class SR -

During Term 4 we have been investigating the life cycles of

various living things. We were able to get tadpoles, cicadas

and silk worms into the class. This allowed us to get hands

on experience of how they looked and behaved at the

different stages of their life cycle. The cicadas were of

particular fascination as we found out they live

underground for 7 years before finding somewhere to leave

their shell.

Our study of maths has focused upon addition, subtraction

and multiplication. We are discovering the way these

functions help us when dealing with money, time and even

place value. One game we have enjoyed involves Mr Tait

writing a three digit number on the Interactive White Board

and we have to represent this number using base ten

blocks. It was tricky to begin with but persistence saw us

all learn to play the game and provide answers

individually.

SR have focused on punctuation and including rich

describing words to produce quality pieces of writing. We

began by constructing and editing our own texts as a class.

The result was often hilarious and involved some

interesting main characters such as a diamond-scaled

dragon with a fondness for Xbox. We were soon creating

individual writings with guidance of Mr Tait and Aunty

Des. It was great to see imaginations in full flight as we

improve our writing. Great work this term SR!

Home Reading Levels Bomaderry Public School rewards efforts with Home Reading. Congratulations to the following students who have reached achievement levels in Home Reading:

Level 3 - 50 books: Peter

Level 4 - 75 books: Shayliegh, Ben, Tara

Level 5 - 100 books: Iya, Natasha, Preston, Brad, Jarek

Level 6 - 150 books: Tiernan

Special Mention: Elizabeth - 200 books!

The Year 6 Farewell The Year 6 farewell took place at the Bomaderry Bowling Club on Wednesday night. Some year six students arrived in fancy cars or on motorbikes with their friends and families. Everyone was taking photos! Once everybody had arrived, we all went into our function room to take some more photos. The graduating students were called in by Mrs Brown one by one and they had to have a nice photo and then we could pose. Some people crossed their arms and some people just smiled, thats just the way it is. Everybody enjoyed their chicken schnitzel, chips, salad, and of course, their dessert.

After dinner, everyone joined in when the Macarena, the Nutbush, and YMCA were on. We danced the night away!

The students and teachers went home tired but very happy. By Alana
