Term 4 Week 6 Tuesday 14th November 2017 Recognising our Great Students Due to our whole school assembly for the wonderful ISER Performance there was no award ceremony this week. Next Monday we will be back to our usual K-6 assembly and ready to award our many great students with their merits. ISER Performing Ensemble The Illawarra and South-East Regional touring ensemble performed a wonderful show at Milton Public School yesterday. The 45 strong DET High School students consisted of a stage band, dancers and vocalists. They performed well-known songs including Sax, Footloose, Michael Jackson Medley, I Wanna Be Like You, Can’t Stop The Feeling, Mercy, Shake Your Tail Feather and Celebration. Some of the students were chosen to dance with the performers and the audience also had demonstrations on how some of the musical instruments worked. The performers were extremely professional from the song choices to the choreography, band music and colourful costumes. We hope the Ensemble can return next year. Mini Fete Coming Soon Year 6 will be running the annual Mini Fete this Friday 17th November. This is an opportunity for Year 6 students to practice all the leadership and organisational skills they have developed during their years in primary school. Students in years K-5 have received a note and will need to fill it in and return to school with $4 by Thursday. This money will ensure they receive a "token sheet" on the day of the mini fete to use at the stalls. The stalls this year include: haunted house, drink stall, cake stall, hit the hooligan, fortune telling, disco, find the golden key (treasure hunt), talent quest, basketball shootout, obstacle course, hairspray and face painting, soccer shootout, limbo and super soaker. The Year 6 students will then use the money raised to purchase a farewell gift for the school. The Mini Fete will conclude with a Talent Quest. 3-6 Swimming Sessions

The Term 4 Swimming Sessions for 3-6 have begun. Students are reminded to bring a hat, rash vest or t-shirt, towel and sunscreen. A plastic bag to put wet swimmers in makes the transportation of wet items much easier. The cost of these sessions are $2.60, brought to school on the child’s designated swimming day (Milton Pool passes are accepted).

State PSSA Cricket Carnival

Lachlan and Drew will be attending the State Cricket Carnival in Sydney commencing next week. They will be representing the South Coast for the second year in a row. We wish them every success.

Milton PS Breakfast Program.

Each morning students may take advantage of our early opening canteen breakfast menu available from 9:00am. Milo - $1.20 Bowl of cereal - $2.00 selection of fresh fruit - free (generously provided by the P&C) In addition to this menu, we are now able to offer toast for free each morning from Thursday this week. This is because local plumbing legends J&T Plumbing has generously provided funding for a commercial toaster. Milton Bakery and Milton IGA have also come on board and offered bread for toasting each day. We are hoping to also secure donations to cover butter/margarine and vegemite.

Class Request

Class 3C would like to complete some craft activities using corks. Unfortunately we cannot find a catalogue from which to purchase them. We are hoping that some members of our wonderful school community may have a collection of corks they would be prepared to donate to our class. Please drop off at 3C classroom (near the back door of the hall) anytime between 8:30am and 4:00pm. All donations will be gratefully accepted.

Early School Arrivals

We are noticing that some children are arriving at school as early as 8am. It is a concern for us that students are arriving this early as no supervision in any form is available at this time. The earliest children should be arriving at school is from 8:30am where they are loosely supervised in the top quad area. Supervision duty commences from 8:55am.

Poetry Milton Show

A Junior Poetry Speaking Competition is scheduled for 3rd

March 2018 at 9.30am for the Milton Show. It is for students K-6. If you require further information, please contact [email protected]. Entry forms are available from the office foyer.

School Hats

The warmer weather is upon us, so it is paramount that students wear a blue school hat at all times when outside. As previously advised the school uniform policy requires a broad brimmed royal blue hat, but we have accepted the bucket style hat also. This policy has been developed in line with the Department of Education’s Sun Safe regulations. Students will not be permitted to play on the oval or open areas without a school hat. The bucket hat with gold piping is available from the front office at a minimal cost of $6.00. We thank you for your support.

Scholastic Book Fair

The Scholastic Book Fair will continue until Friday November 17th in the School Library! It will be open each day before and after school at 8:45am - 9:20am and 3:25pm - 4:15pm. Everyone is welcome. New stock will be arriving shortly. Remember a generous percentage of sales are returned to the school as commission. This is directly reinvested back into our library. The more purchases made the more free books and resources we earn for our school! With Christmas and the holidays approaching now is the time to stock up on some great reading material. Cash and eftpos payments are available. Congratulations to Lucas, Oliver, Jessika and Jalilyah. They have been rewarded for their outstanding borrowing throughout the year. Congratulations to Eve, the winner of the K-2 colouring in competition. The winner of the Jungle Book-Jumble was Elle. All these students have received a book voucher to use at the Book Fair Time: (8:45am - 9.20am) and (3:25pm – 4:15pm) –

Free Bus Travel Applications for

Students from Year 2 to 3

In coming days parents of students in Year 2 or Year 6 who are currently holding a bus pass and students who have a bus pass due to a medical condition, will receive notification by email or post from Transport NSW, informing them of the pending expiry of their entitlement. Parent will be asked to go online to https://apps.transport.nsw.gov.au/ssts/updateDetails to make application for next year. It would be appreciated if these applications could be completed by 1st December to allow time for staff to verify details before the commencement of the school holidays. Any applications submitted during the school vacation time may be delayed and students will be asked to pay for their travel while waiting for their application to be processed. Thank you for your assistance.

The Year 3 and 4 Social

On Wednesday night after school we had the year 3 and 4 social. It started at 6:00pm and went until 8:00pm. All of year 3 and 4 and the teachers came to school for dances and games. The first dance we did was the Barn Dance and the boys got to chose the girls to dance with. After the Barn Dance we said goodbye to all of the parents and then it was just us for a great night. I was so excited. After the Barn Dance we did the Heel and Toe Polka, it went for such a long time! Our first game was Corners. When to music stopped Mr Grant span the baton and if it pointed to you then your corner was out. It was so much fun. Next we danced the Stockyards, this time the girls got to choose their partner for the dance. Then we all came into the hall and did the Maddison. This was my favourite dance because I like the music. Our next game was Heads and Tails. You had to choose whether to put your hand on your head or your tail and then Miss Coleman flipped the coin. If you got it right you stayed in. When you got out, you went to the canteen and got a popper box for free. My friends and I all had sunshine punch. Strip the Willow was next and that was hard. My group did a good job and we finished it. Then we did the Hokey Pokey. The last time I did the Hokey Pokey I was in pre-school. First I was confused and then I remembered it. We got to play a great new game with Mr Barby. It was called Ship Wreck. Mr Barby called out the things and you had to do it. He kept trying to trick us by doing the wrong actions. After this game we had a free ice-block from the canteen. Mine was lime and it was green. Miss Coleman took a photo of me and my friends. When we were still getting ready after the break 4W just started dancing and then we all copied them. It was a just dance. It was getting dark so we turned on the pretty stage light and we turned the hall lights out. It was so cool. We did 2 just dances and then the Macareena. The just dance was my other favourite. Our last game was Cross the River. We all dance in a big circle and the music stopped and if you were in between the cones you got out. I love this game, it was so much fun. Then we did the Jive. It was the girls turn to pick again. I was really happy doing the Jive. We had some extra time so we did the Heel and Toe Polka again and then we asked our parents to come and do the Maddison with us. I danced with my Dad. Then it was the end of the social and we went home. Mr Grant took down all of the balloons and he gave me some. Miss Coleman let me keep the streamers. We had a great night at the social. It was my best night ever, I was so excited. By Mahlie, Kaitlyn and Chloe 3C
