Term 4 - Week 7 26th November 2018 and ready to achieve great things in Year 7. Remember – Year 6 will attend Bomaderry High School THIS WEDNESDAY, 28th for a full day of Orientation. PRESENTATION DAY 2018 – YOU are invited Our ANNUAL PRESENTATION DAY is approaching – Tuesday December 11th. The Primary Assembly will take place at 10.00am and Infants at 12.00pm. Everyone is invited and encouraged to attend. These significant assemblies celebrate the year, reward significant achievements, welcome special guests and sign off for another year of education at our school. Please come along. We try to chat with families if we know that students are receiving a special award, but this is not always possible. We would love it if our whole school community came along to celebrate the achievements for 2018. ‘Kicking’ our Learning Goals Every BPS student has individual learning goals and they strive to achieve these every day. It is with great pride and excitement that students visit the Principal’s office to celebrate the achievement of these goals. Students talk about how they achieved their goals, who helped them, and what they plan to achieve next - it is a very special time. Emily from 4/5/6B achieved her learning goal last week. She can create complex texts and use complex punctuation correctly. Nico in 2Y can complete more complicated algorithms in Numeracy. Tabetha from 2Y can write a persuasive speech and also count by 2s, 5s and 10s. Paige in 1M can count forward and backwards to 10. Cooper from 1M can count on and back. Jett from 2G uses known facts when solving addition and subtraction problems. Charlotte from 2G can solve 2 digit addition and subtraction problems. Sam, Chloe and Liam from 3/4G all achieved their Numeracy goals last week. Sam can complete 3 digit addition and subtraction problems. Chloe can solve double digit addition and Liam can count backwards by 10s. Congratulations, to all of our super goal achievers. Kindergarten 2019 – Enrol NOW and join us for ORIENTATION We have enrolments for more than two 2019 Kindergarten classes already, so it would be fabulous to know how many more enrolments we have to help with staffing and classroom organisation. Please remind family and friends, neighbours and preschool buddies to call in at school if their child is 5 already, or turning 5, by June 2019. Students and families who are already enrolled, are invited along to our Kindergarten Orientation & Info/ Expo Days Thursday 29th & Friday 30th November. Dear Parents & Carers 2019 Enrolments – please keep us informed We are right in the thick of planning classes and staffing for 2019! You can help us greatly if you have any information about student movements which will affect our enrolment numbers. If your family plans to move or change schools in 2019, can you please let our office know as soon as possible. We have many new students joining us and we are using this information to start drafting numbers of students in classes. If we have students who do not return at the beginning of 2019, and we didn’t know about it, we will have to reorganise everyone! Please help us have a close-to-perfect draft ready to go. Thank you. Santa Visited BPS We were thrilled to have a visit from Santa last Friday. He joined students and families for breakfast at the canteen and then stayed at school for loads of photo opportunities with staff and students! Thank you to: Meagan in the canteen, Mr Muir, our GA, and our wonderful P&C, particularly Carla, for organising this fabulous opportunity. And thank you of course to Santa for making himself available at this very busy toy- manufacturing time of year. This was another successful fundraiser. Our P&C raised $630. Thank you for your participation, BPS families. We hope you enjoy your photos and your Christmas. Elf on the Shelf We have another special Christmas visitor at school at the moment. ‘Elf on the Shelf’ is in Ms Hanbidge’s office waiting patiently for December. As soon as the calendar is turned over he plans to get up to his nightly mischief! We will keep you posted on the school facebook page each day if he does anything exciting! Ms Hanbidge is getting a bit nervous ….. Year 5 Leadership Speeches and Voting Following our whole school assembly tomorrow, the Year 5 students seeking 2019 leadership positions will give their speeches. The assembly will begin a little earlier than usual. It will begin at 12.15pm After the assembly, Years K, 1 and 6 will return to class and all students in Years 2-5 will remain. Year 5 candidates will give their speeches and the students will then vote. Everyone is welcome to come along to hear our Year 5 students. We are very proud of this bunch of prospective leaders. They have met with a number of executive staff to discuss their leadership plans and they have also had an interview with Ms Hanbidge to determine whether they are certain they would like to go ahead! Great news, they are all ready to go. Good luck to all of these fantastic Year 5 students. Year 6 Transition to High School. Please keep an eye on all transition dates, events and information. It is such a busy time and we would like for all of our BPS students to be organised, confident

School Bus Travel 2019

Applications for school travel in 2019 are now open: www.transportnsw.info/school-students

A new application is only required when:

Applying for a school bus pass for the first time

Enrolling in Kindergarten

You will need to do an update application if the student already has a current school bus pass and:

Is progressing from Year 6 to Year 7

Changes address

Changes school

Is requesting an additional pass as a result of a shared parental responsibility situation

Please update your details at: apps.transport.nsw.gov.au/ssts/updatedetails

If you already have a school bus pass that does not need updating, or you’ve successfully reapplied (for one of the reasons above), your 2019 bus pass will be sent to the school at the beginning of 2019. You will use your 2018 bus pass until the new one arrives.

Please call 131 500 if you require further information.

Term 4 - Week 7 26th November 2018

Quality Work Tanit, Charlie, Rose and Harry from 2G produced high quality written expositions. They used paragraphs, high modality and included supporting evidence in their work. They almost (but not quite) convinced me that cats make better pets than dogs!

Emily and Wendy from 4/5/6B used rich language in their high quality writing. They evoked an emotional response from the reader when writing a poem about clouds.

Bomaderry Schools as Community Centres (SaCC) Our school is adding an additional service to the Bomaderry community next year with the development of a community room project. This Community Centre will offer new services, such as a playgroup. The facilitator role for the centre was advertised as an Expression of Interest (EOI) in the Friday edition of the South Coast Register. Library Matters

It’s that time of the year again when students need to have a big search for their library books and return them to the library. Have a look under the bed, in the car, on the bookshelf, etc. The first class to have all their books returned will win a treat in the library. Thank you to parents and carers for your support with finding library books. Books make fabulous Christmas gifts and there are some great ideas in the current Book Club brochure. All orders are due back to school by Wednesday 28th November. Please note online orders need to be completed by the same date to ensure they are processed with the school order and to avoid possible delay with receiving items. Mrs Urquhart – Teacher Librarian

We are now finalising our numbers for Kindergarten

friends with a child that will be attending kindergarten

at BPS in 2019 to contact the school as soon as

possible for an enrolment form.
