Charlotte saying hello after Lord of the Dance

Coming Up in Term 3

Irish Dancing Competition (senior Irish Dancers) to be confirmed Upper Hutt Multi-Cultural Festival 30th September – all Irish Dancers

Farewell to Charlotte Wright – Irish Dancing Teacher

It is with much sadness, and many tears from the kids (and me!), that we farewell our much loved Irish Dancing teacher Charlotte. Charlotte has taught with Arts a Go Go! for over 6 years and in this time we have seen her finish school, be World Ranked, gain a scholarship in dance to London, perform professionally with Lord of the Dance, get a university degree, turn 21, get engaged and much more! We are so grateful for all the time she has put into our students and the passion for Irish dance that she has ignited in us all. She is a fabulous person and teacher and I have loved every minute working with her. Charlotte is both working full time in a demanding job and living in Wellington central, as well as teaching her Wellington students and still performing on occasion herself. We have been incredibly lucky that she has managed to fit in travelling to Upper Hutt for as long as she has. Charlotte will still run the odd workshop, will help choreograph the Irish Dancing in the show and stay as connected as she can. We are very fortunate that taking over the intermediate and senior classes will be a friend of Charlotte’s, Lucy de Jong. Lucy may not be with us for long as may be moving overseas but we are very grateful to have her for the time being at least. Holly will continue with the juniors.

Here is an introduction from Lucy. We welcome you!

I began creative dance when I was 2 years old, and

Irish dancing when I was 6. I soon began to focus on

Irish and started competing in local and national

competitions soon after. I won the Waterford Cup at

the Capital City Feis when I was 17 and later went on

to compete at the World Championships in Belfast

2012. I've been assisting with teaching classes in Irish

dance since the age of about 14, up until I went to the

UK for the Worlds, where I stayed for a year. Since

then I took a break from dancing to focus on my

university studies in Biomedical Science. I am

beginning to get back into teaching Irish dance, with

the aim of qualifying as a dance teacher in my own

right and eventually running a school of my own. I

also gained a certificate in Fashion and Special

Effects makeup artistry in 2011 while training for the

Worlds.

Reminders for a Smooth Start to the Term

*With classes other than Little Mozarts and the 4 and 5 year old Intro, beyond the first day of term, parents and siblings do not stay in the room where instruction is taking place. (You are welcome to wait in the foyer.) Students’ confidence and their willingness to take risks can be affected if they feel people are watching them all the time. On the second to last day of terms 1 and 2, there is “parent viewing” day, where parents and family have the opportunity to observe the classes in action and students have a chance to have an audience. This does not take place in terms 3 & 4 when we are show focussed. * If your child is in a two hour Saturday combo class, please pack a drink and a healthy snack for them, as they will be given a short refueling break during the session. * Clothing should be comfortable and easy to move in. NOT skirts unless they are wearing leggings or shorts underneath. Intro class students are welcome to wear fairy and ballet outfits!
