Carinity Education | GLENDYNE 3 April, 2019 TERM ONE WRAP UP ! I cant help but think how quickly this year has gone, and it only seems that Christmas and New Year was yesterday. Easter is only a few weeks away and as I write, goodbyes to the students for the term are being shared. It has been a great term, even though there has been many changes. A recent survey completed by the students received some very positive feedback, and high satisfaction regarding their time at school; however, a few improvement suggestions had been mentioned, which are now being considered and trialled. Some suggestions were - 1. The inclusion of a morning tea break in the Senior school, 2. A cold water fountain in the Senior school, 3. And for both areas some playground and calisthenics equipment for those students who want to participate in activities. I am meeting with consultants during the vacation break to consider the installation of these items during the next term. We had two great events in recent weeks. The Easterfest’, and the Infused Fun Dayin the Middle school. Both were very successful, and attracted many visitors to the school. Thank you to parents and friends who attended. Your participation made the day a happy one for the students. The Easterfest also raised $300 dollars towards Red Cross and this was presented to Red Cross at the final week school assembly. Thanks again to all involved in helping and supporting these activities, particularly our local businesses. Please note, this Friday (5 th April) is a half day for students. Students will participate in clean up and then some sports, and will be picked up or taken home at 11.00am. Have a great and safe Easter break. TERM ONE WRAP UP ! I can’t help but think how quickly this year has gone, and it only seems that Christmas and New Year was yesterday.

Some suggestions were -

1. The inclusion of a morning tea break in the Senior school,

2. A cold water fountain in the Senior school,

3. And for both areas some playground and calisthenics equipment for those students who want to participate in activities.

I am meeting with consultants during the vacation break to consider the installation of these items during the next term.

We had two great events in recent weeks. The ‘Easterfest’, and the ‘Infused Fun Day’ in the Middle school.

Please note, this Friday (5th April) is a half day for students. Students will participate in clean up and then some sports, and will be picked up or taken home at 11.00am. Have a great and safe Easter break.

SCHOOL ATTENDANCE AWARDS At assembly this week, we acknowledged the high attendance of the following students for the term;

I congratulate these students, this is a fantastic effort. Many students came close, and hopefully they will be mentioned in Term 2. As advised to all students, if you are not here, how can we help you and support you in your learning journey.

IS THERE SCHOOL ON FRIDAYS ??????

Every student has a timetable and unless you are Year 12, all other year levels has school on Friday. The school receives many phone calls from parents stating that their child (not year 12) doesn’t have school on Friday. Please don’t believe them, there is school on Fridays, and it is mandatory subjects that contribute to the students report card, and if in Years 10, 11, their Queensland Certificate of Educaiton (QCE)

SCHOOL CAPTAINS AND VICE CAPTAINS

This morning, after student and staff ballots selections last week, the following students have been announced as School Captains or Vice captains.

2019 Captains - Klay Barnes & Shanisha Bowkett

2019 Vice-Captain - Kayla Hunter

Congratulations ! There will be an official badge presentation and morning tea to celebrate these appointments in the first week of Term 2.

SCHOOL HATS We now have school hats available for purchase.

It has come to our attention, that whilst we try to provide sun protection, most students are getting burnt due to either not wearing hats, or wearing caps that only offer limited protection. While hats are not compulsory for everyday use around the school grounds and classrooms, they will be compulsory for subjects such as Recreational Studies, or Conservation and Land Management, as students are required to be in the sun for long periods of time. Hats will also be required for times when students represent the school at public events such as Sports days and ANZAC marches.

The hats can be purchased from the office for $7.00 each.

TIMETABLE CHANGES

During the recent student survey, some students mentioned having morning tea in the Senior school, similar to Middle school and Transition. Most of our Year 10’s have progressed through the school and are used to this as part of the school day. I think the idea is good, and worth a trial. Below is the time changes for Term 2. There will also be a change to Tuesdays bell times to reflect the breakfast activity.

To note, the canteen will not be open for morning tea. Students who want to use this time to have something to eat will need to provide their own food.

LEADERSHIP CHANGE TERM 2

After nearly 14 years at the school, I have decided to take some Long Service Leave in Term 2. In my absence, Brian Hawthorne will be Acting Principal. Any Principal enquiries should be directed to Brian.

NAPLAN

It is coming to that time of year again when students in Years 7 & 9 participate in Naplan testing. This will occur on 14th, 15th, and 16th of May. If you do not want your child to be involved in Naplan, please advise the school in writing during the Easter holiday break, and we can remove them from the test schedule.
