TERM TWO W elcome back, I hope everybody enjoyed the school holidays and the Easter break. Last term was super-busy with Athletics, Triathlon, and Swimming Sports. We did a lot of valuable learning about Digital Citizenship, how to keep ourselves safe online, how to deal with cyber bullying, and setting up and settling into our new Digital Learning Environments. T his term, we start the term with a two- week focus on ANZAC day. We will be learning to understand the importance of remembering New Zealand’s historical events. We will be learning about the significance of, and making, poppies and Anzac biscuits. We will also learn the Ode of Remembrance and will attend the school’s commemorative service on Friday the 24 th April. We then move on to our Inquiry for the term, which will be based around environmental sustainability. The students will be given the opportunity to select their own aspect of environmental sustainability to focus their inquiry. They will learn to immerse themselves in the topic, brainstorm what they already know and gain as much surface information into the topic as possible. After this they will write some guiding questions and identify some key words to help focus their research. The students will learn valuable research, note taking and presentation skills throughout tis inquiry. Our math learning this term will center around the topic of multiplication and division. We will also be conducting statistical investigations and graphing data and results. Health and Physical Education lessons will be based around the up coming Wellsford Sports Exchange. The students will be given the opportunity to try Basketball, Soccer, Rippa Rugby, Netball and Unihoc. They will then select one of these sports to participate in on the exchange day with Wellsford Primary School. Te Reo lessons are focused around the topic of kai (food) this term. We will learn some of the Māori words for a selection of foods. The students will also learn to say which foods they like and dislike. We are lucky to have Whaea Natalie working with the Intermediate Syndicate on Fridays this term. Homework, standard expectations are that the students will complete 60 minutes math whizz per week in replay mode. Because our Math focus is multiplication this term, it is also expected that students will practise their times tables up to 12 x 12 if need be. Students should also read for 20 minutes per night. Each class has a library slot where students can select reading material for enjoyment. Please see classroom teachers for additional suitable reading material if you wish. C ontact, If you have any queries in regards to your child’s learning, please contact the classroom teacher.
