NORTHWEST ORDINANCE• One of the greatest contributions of the Articles of

Confederation

• Established the procedure for statehood • Demonstrated US plans to expand westward by adding

new states and not extending the existing ones • New states would be = members of Union• Banned slavery in NW Territory• Ohio River became boundary b/w free and slave regions

between the 13 states and Mississippi River• Mandated establishment of public schools

WAR OF 1812 RESULTS2nd American Revolution

1. Ends hostility between US and GB: never again will U.S and Great Britain wage war over diplomacy, trade, territory, or any other kind of dispute

2. America’s army and navy were firmly established as worthy opponents of any European military force

3. The U.S military achievements in the War of 1812 increase nationalist sentiments and begins the development of a US national identity
