Activity DirectorsNOTES
– Joan Esselmann
I want to thank all of you that have expressed your confidence in me as the new Activity Director. I truly appreciate your kind words. I hope that anytime I fail to meet your expectations that you will come to ME with your concerns. It is so much easier to address an issue in the beginning, rather than at the end of the community grapevine! I am having regular hours in the Activi-ty Directors office in the clubhouse (I’m sharing an office with Vickie across from the Park Managers office) and those hours are posted on the door. Please feel free to come and see me, call me, or email me at any time. My numbers are in the resident direc-tory. I would like to paraphrase a saying often attributed to Abra-ham Lincoln and it goes like this:
“You can “please” some of the people all of the time, and all of the people some of the time, but you cannot “please” all of the people
all of the time”.
I will try my best to be an Activity Director that pleases all of the residents of Gavin’s Ranch all of the time, but sometimes I might miss that mark, and when I do please let me know!! I can always use help, so if you want to help the Activity Committee in any way please let me know. Also, there is a silver ACTIVITY mail box located in the Communications Room right under the big white events board for you to leave your thoughts, ideas, suggestions, comments, compliments, and of course complaints.

BUTTS
In the last few weeks I have had several Residents approach
me about cigarette butts all over the community.
It would be appreciatednot only by me but also
all of your neighbors. Please Respect our
community and pick-upyour cigarette butts.
Thank you.
As mentioned in thecolumn to the left, I
have had MANY Residents approach me about “FIDO’s” “Poop”!
Please be respectful ofeveryone that lives here. It’s just not right to leave
your dog’s waste in another’s yard.
Thank you.
DOG WASTEaka “Poop”
DOGSBARKING
Since we’re on the subject of dogs, is yours a BARKER? If so please figure out a way
to stop the on-going barking. I have had many complaints Regarding dogs throughout
The community of dogsbarking non-stop. It
is the policy of McGavinRanch that barking dogs
must be stopped. Once ina while is ok, but not on-going.(P.S. My dog no longer barks)
SPEEDING
THE SPEED LIMIT THROUGHOUT
MCGAVIN RANCH IS 10 MPH!
This is something else that I’ve Had many complaints about.
PLEASE, PLEASESLOW IT DOWN …
It is VERY dangerous to speed around here like it’s
a race-track as we have Grandparents at play!
Thank you.
We are very fortunate that at McGavin ranch we have a lot of activities. Physically we can play pickle ball, bocce ball, volleyball, and even take our chances at a hole-in-one at putt-putt! We have plenty of outdoor areas in which to run, walk, or ride bicycles. Wii, square dancing, informal dancing and walk aerobics are offered as indoor activities. The clubhouse has areas to play cards, dominos, darts, shuffleboard and pool tables. For those that are creative there’s a group that meets weekly to sew, quilt, paint and anything else you would like to do with your hands. Board games and puzzles are available. Bible study as well as a book club is also available. A library offers many kinds of reading material. Every Wednesday morning coffee and donuts are available for a wake-up call. Twice a month you can try your luck at bingo! Had enough? Well believe it or not, there are many peo-ple that don’t find any of these activities of interest. What they do find, along with everyone else, is that just getting together with their neighbors and friends is a very important part of their lives. For this reason
the Activity Committee is charged with coming up with social events. Whether it is something as simple as a potluck, as elaborate as a catered holiday dinner or providing entertainment of different types, a lot of help is needed to provide this kind of activity. All events need volunteers to plan and organize, to shop, serve, set up and clean up. Volunteers to help out are critical. Without volunteers events cannot be planned or carried out. Frankly, our already existing small pool of volunteers is going to be worn out very quickly! Your help is needed. The more people that volunteer to be of assistance at events the less often individuals will be contacted to do so. So PLEASE consider volunteering to help out at events. You may contact Mary Schmidt (Lot 168) Volunteer coordina-tor, at (701) 641-6002, or the Activity Director Joan Esselmann (Lot 53) (480) 380-3959 or during her office hours in the clubhouse as posted. Your HELP IS NEEDED - URGENTLY.

SPECIAL EVENT AT COFFEE WEDNESDAY MARCH 8
On Wednesday March 8, we will have a brief, special presentation from Wally Zimmer of East Valley Adult Resources on a program for MEALS ON WHEELS FOR SENIORS. I encourage you to attend. Spread the word to your neighbors as well. A sign-up sheet will be in the Communications Room of the Clubhouse for you to indicate that you will attend so we know how much coffee to make and donuts to order. If you have any questions, please contact me, at 480 380-3959 or stop by my office during office hours.

Introduction to square dancing, no experience needed!
There’s a saying I remember from my childhood:
Sticks and Stones may break my bones, but W ords will never harm me!
Unfortunately we all know that’s not true. In fact, words can sometimes be more hurtful than sticks and stones. Recently I read something on the Internet that I actually felt was worth re-peating.
The next time before you speak THINK T – is it TRUEH – is it HELPFUL I – is it INSPIRINGN – is it NECESSARYK – is it KIND
Something for all of us to reflect on!
AWESOME FUND RAISER!!Thanks to the generosity of residents Calvin and Margaret Rumanek (Lot 158), we have a beautiful hand-made rug to raffle off, with all proceeds going to benefit the Activi-ty Events at McGavin Ranch. This rug is made of a polyes-ter blend , is washable, and suitable for hanging, if desired. Tickets are 1 for $2.00 and 3 for $5.00, and are available from Doris Atkinson (Lot 38) and Teri Halgren (Lot 106). The rug will be on display at the Clubhouse during Wednes-day Coffee, when the Activity Office is open and at other events. Drawing will be at the St. Patrick’s Dinner, March 11th and the winner need not be present to win.
