The 33-year-old paceman suffered the injury during the fifth Test draw at The Oval last month and was ru- led out for up to eight weeks. But Harris said yesteray the injury ‘‘seems to have healed’’ and last week re- turned to bowling as part of early preparations for the opening Test at the Gabba on November 21. ‘‘I probably had two weeks off bowling and I’ve been back at the gym getting my strength back up, so every- thing’s on target,’’ he said. ‘‘We’re just in process of planning out exactly how many games I’m going to play and what the process is going to be leading into that first Test.’’ Belinda Howie, Sally Howie and Kerry Baldissera Howie following in the family footsteps HOCKEY By JESS WEBSTER ONE Centralian family will achieve a rare feat this week- end when 11-year-old Sally Howie makes her NT hockey representative debut. Howie will become a third generation NT hockey repre- sentative after mother Belinda and grandmother Kerry Baldissera — all born in Alice Springs — also repre- sented the Territory. Baldissera, 61, was a NT re- presentative from 1986-2000 and spent eight years at the Australian National Veterans Championships, while her daughter Belinda, 39, repre- sented the NT in under-21s (1991-92), and seniors (1993). Belinda has also repre- sented South Australia while at boarding school and made the SA under-16s (1989-90), and under-21s (1995). She is now based in Dar- win, where her daughter Sally has been playing local hockey for Waratahs for the past three years. Belinda said hockey was ‘‘second nature’’ for the family. ‘‘My mum started becom- ing involved in hockey at a very young age and has been an integral part of the Alice Springs Hockey Association running Masters Games and has been a player most her life,’’ she said. ‘‘I’ve grown up always go- ing down to the hockey on the weekends. It’s second nature to us. Hockey is great for the young ones, not only on the field for team discipline, but it’s great off field socially too — I’ve made lifelong friends from the sport.’’ As the youngest member of the side, Sally will head to Hobart this weekend where the NT under-13s will contest the national championships. The NT under-13 boys will compete in Melbourne while the under-15 boys (Darwin) and girls (Perth) will also be in action when all four tour- naments are played from September 28-October 5. Keeper’s spot in no doubt SOCCER SQUAD Oliver Bozanic, Mark Bresciano, Tim Cahill, David Carney, Jason Davidson, James Holland, Brett Holman, Jackson Irvine, Mile Jedinak, Josh Kennedy, Robbie Kruse, Mitchell Langerak (gk), Matthew Leckie, Matthew McKay, Mark Milligan, Lucas Neill, Tommy Oar, Sasa Ognenovski, Tommy Rogic, Nikita Rukavytsya, Mat Ryan (gk), Dario Vidosic, Luke Wilkshire, Rhys Williams. SOCCEROOS stalwart Mark Schwarzer has been left out of the national squad for friendlies against France and Canada, but coach Holger Osieck says the 40-year-old is not keeping on borrowed time. Mitch Langerak is set to make his international debut against France in Paris next month, having had his first taste of the Champions League last week with German club Borussia Dortmund. Langerak has been on Osieck’s radar since first be- ing called into Australia’s squad in March 2011 and looms large as Schwarzer’s most likely replacement should there be a change be- tween the posts for the 2014 World Cup. ‘‘At the present stage, yes,’’ Osieck replied when asked if Schwarzer was his first choice for Brazil. ‘‘It’s a very simple one. ‘‘I know what he can do and his status in the team. He’s our No. 1 goalkeeper. ‘‘But if I keep playing him, what about the others we may need? ‘‘In particular Mitch Langerak I think it’s about time for him to show what he can do.’’ The goalkeeping dilemma is one of many questions hovering over the make-up of Australia’s team, especi- ally after they were ham- mered 6-0 by Brazil. A JAKE Weatherald century has lifted the NT Strike to its first win in the SACA Premier League yesterday. Opening bat Weatherald’s blazing 106 from 88 balls against Papua New Guinea carried the Strike past their 194-run target with five wickets and 18 overs to spare. That was after the off-spin of Cameron Francis (4-28), Madura Weerasinghe (2-22) and Udara Weerasinghe (2-30) dismissed PNG for 193. A former Darwin Cricket Club junior, Weatherald hit eight fours and five sixes in his quickfire knock before he was dismissed just 24 runs short of the victory target. ‘‘We needed a lift in our batting and I was pleased to step up and get a few off the middle of the bat this time,’’ Weatherald said. ‘‘It’s given us a boost before meeting South Australia (today), so hopefully we can learn from this.’’ Weatherald’s 130-run fourth wicket partnership with Adam Dilley effectively won the game for the Territory side. None of the PNG batsmen went on to a big score despite Mahuru Dai continuing his good form with 40, Jason Kila making 35 and skipper Chris Amini 22. The Strike’s interstate 50-over match against a full- strength Redbacks side today will be followed by crucial Premier League games against the Eastern Edge and Southern Force.
