KEY WARNING MESSAGESThe CoaguChek automatically performs a system check to prevent inaccurate results. If the meter detects a malfunction it displays the “Error” message and appropriate symbol.

Error 3: Test StripTest strip is beyond it’s expiry date. Check correct date and time is set on meter. If correct, repeat test with new lot of test strips and code chip.

Error 4: Test Strip UnusableOften caused by applying the drop of blood before the countdown has begun. Retest making sure you wait for the 180 second countdown before pricking the finger and applying the drop of blood.

Error 5: Blood ApplicationInsufficient blood is applied to test strip. Repeat with new test strip.

Error 6: MeasurementKnocking the meter or strip after applying the blood. Repeat with a new test strip.

Error: Temperature symbol flashingThe meter is too cold (< 15˚C) or warm (> 32˚C) to measure correctly.

CHANGE OF DATE AND TIMEWhen using the CoaguChek XS for the first time, or following a battery change, the date and time may need to be set. Note: The meter will not work if the date and time are not set.

When the instrument is turned on it will automatically enter the set menu (if this does not occur, press the set button on the left side of the monitor).

The set menu displays each setting option in the following sequence: • Date Format select: 31/12/00 (DD/MM/YY) Press set • Date (year) Press M until current year is displayed Press set • Date (month) Press M until current month is displayed Press set • Date (day) Press M until current day is displayed Press set • Time format select: 12 hour Press set • Time (hour) Press M until correct hour is displayed Press set • Time (minute) Press M until correct minute is displayed Press set

ALWAYS wash your hands in warm water and dry hands before

handling the test strips.

Use the side of the finger to obtain blood

- it’s less painful. After pricking the

finger gently milk it, don’t squeeze or press as this may falsify the

coagulation values.

Apply blood to the clear window on the test strip, either side application or

top dosing.

Check the expiry date. Don’t use the strips after the expiry date.

Always store strips in the original container and replace the lid immediately.

Change your code key each time you open a new vial of strips.
