5.4 Weight and moment P

8.1.1 Compliance with this standard is checked byconducting the tests specified and appropriatefor the product

8.1.2 Tests described in this section useinstrumentation, apparatus, and environmentalconditions that are described in Clause 9.

8.2.1 With the ballast energized at the input voltageand frequency in accordance with Clauses 8.1.5,8.1.6, and 8.1.8, the input current shall not bemore than 110 percent of the marked rating

8.2.2 For devices intended for use on a dimmer circuit,the input current measured during the test ofClause 8.12.2.1 shall not be more than 110percent of the marked rating.

8.3 Lamp starting and operating measurements P

8.6 Dielectric voltage-withstand test P

8.6.1 A device with accessible non-current-carryingmetal parts that could be energized from withinshall withstand for 1 minute, without breakdown,the application of a test potential of twice therated voltage + 1000 V between all live parts andall accessible non-current-carrying metal parts.

8.1 Equipment that emits ultraviolet radiation atwavelengths less than 250 nm shall comply withthe Ozone Test in CSA-C22.2 No. 187 or UL867. The Ozone Test is not required if theeffective irradiance from wavelengths less than250 nm is no more than 1% of that generated inthe 250-400 nm bands.

9 Safeguards P

9.1 Germicidal systems shall incorporate at least twoindependent electrical or mechanical safeguards(i.e.: primary and secondary) to reduce theoverexposure risk if the system is inadvertentlyor intentionally operating while the treated spaceis occupied. This may be accomplished with anycombination of site and equipment safeguards.Safeguards shall be installed near or within thetreated space to reduce the likelihood ofoccupancy immediately before or during emitteroperation. Examples of such safeguards include:

9.2 Safeguards shall operate independently of oneanother. The failure of any single safeguard shallnot disable or degrade the remainingsafeguards, unless the fault also results in a safeshutdown. Compliance is determined by theSafeguard Assessment, Clause 10.

9.3 When a safeguard is mounted less than 2.1 m (7ft) above the floor, any adjustments, intentionalor otherwise, that can be accomplished by handor by using ordinary tools (e.g.: blocking orpainting over a sensor, disconnecting a wire orconnector, etc.) shall either:a) Not affect the operation of the remainingsafeguards;b) Prevent system engagement and operationuntil repairs can be made; orc) Result in a safe shutdown.

10 Safeguard Assessment P

10.1 The germicidal system, with all necessaryelectrical and mechanical components in place,shall be evaluated to assess each site orequipment safeguard intended to comply with9.2. This assessment maybe performed as an engineering review (e. g.:fault tree analysis), a series of actual faults on arepresentative system, or any combinationthereof.

10.2 The assessment is considered acceptable if anysingle safeguard failure under any scenarioresults in the emitters shutting down before aperson occupying or entering the treated spacecan be exposed to excessive UV or opticalenergy. In addition, no instance of safeguardfailure shall affect the operation of the remainingsafeguards unless the failure: a) Preventssystem engagement and operation until repairscan be made; or b) Results in a safe shutdown.

10.3 For this assessment the germicidal system shallbe configured in the most disadvantageousconfiguration permitted by the system’sinstallation and operating instructions.Depending on thecomplexity of the system, this may requireselecting and assessing more than oneconfiguration. For eachselected configuration, the following failuremodes shall be considered:a) Electrical faults that simulate the possibleadverse operating states for the safeguard (e. g.:always open, always closed, not responsive tosignals, etc.)

12.5 The compartment or area that contains a userreplaceable light source shall be marked inaccordance with Table 12.1, items 4 and 5. Themarking shall be located on the external surfaceof the equipment where readily visible during anyapproach to the compartment or area. This itemmay optionallyinclude item 7.
