WESTEX-87 CONFERENCE ONEXPERT SYSTEMSDISNEYLAND HOTELANAHEIM, CALIFORNIAJUNE 2-4,1987The second annual WESTEX conference, sponsored by the WesternCommittee of the Computer Societyof the lEEE and the lEEE LosAngeles Council, will be held June 2-4, 1987 in the Disneyland Hotel inAnaheim, California.Theconference sessions will present an in-depth view of expert systemtechnologyby offering practical, realistic examplesof prior successes,and methods and tools for effective expert system development. Theformat of the conference is designed to facilitate interaction betweenpresenters and the audience.The program will feature nationally prominent speakers such asDr. Randall Shumaker, director of the Navy Centerfor AppliedResearch in Artificial Intelligence, and Frederick Hayes-Roth, ofTeknowledge Incorporated.
Two full-day tutorials will be given on June 2 by leading expert systempractitioners, Paul Harmon and Avron Barr. Paul Harmon will conducta course for beginners in the basics of when and how to develop anexpert system. Thesecond tutorial by Avron Barr, intended for experi-enced individuals,will focus on managing the expert system devel-opment process.Technical exhibits featuring expert system products, tools, andenvironments from commercial artificial intelligence hardware andsoftware developmentfirms are an important part of the conference.The exhibits provide potential users the opportunity to see and com-pare first hand what is available,and to make contactwith interestedvendors.
