Events to WatchnCAA CHAMpIonSHIpS• Women’s 100m & 200m Senior Morolake Akinosun is one of only two women to ever score in 4 events in back-to-back years at the NCAA Championships.

She will look to make it three straight if she can advance to the finals in these 2 events.• Women’s 400m Senior Courtney okolo already broke her own collegiate record this year. She eyes her fourth individual title in this event and

hopes to see teammate Chrisann gordon on the podium for Texas as well. • Men’s 400m After winning the NCAA title indoors, Zack Bilderback goes for the sweep. His indoor title was the first in school history for the

men. Eddie Southern won the 440 yards for Texas back in 1959.• Women’s 4x400m Relay Texas has dominated this event as the Longhorns seek their 10th outdoor title. The Longhorns ran the No. 9 time in collegiate

history at NCAA West Prelims as Arkansas ran No. 7. How fast will the final be this year?• Women’s Heptathlon Ashtin Zamzow ranks No. 10 in the NCAA after shattering the school record in heptathlon at Texas Relays. Texas has never had a top

eight finish in the heptathlon.• Men’s 100m Senoj-Jay givans ranks No. 4 in this event with a stacked field. Last year’s NCAA Championships featured 9 different men who ran

sub-10’s during the season. This year only a pair of runners have clocked sub-10’s, but many of those from last year are also back.• Men’s & Women’s Pole Vault Texas is the only school to have multiple pole vaulters for the men and women advance to Eugene for the NCAA Champion-

ships. A total of 4 schools have multiple vaulters for either the men or the women. Sophomore Kally Long ranks 11th heading into the meet and redshirt sophomore Ali Uhle is tied for 21st. For the Texas men, Barrett poth and reese Watson are tied for No. 17 in the field of 24 athletes vying for the title.

The meet will be aired on the ESPN family of networks and also available online via espn3.com and the WatchESPN app on your smartphone or tablet device. Check your local listings for time and channel.

Fans are also encouraged to follow the meet online with live results provided by FlashResults.com. Updates for the Longhorns can be found on social media by following the team’s official Twitter account @UTexasTrack. The NCAA will be updating throughout the meet on @NCAATrackField and another Twitter account to keep an eye on is @USTFCCCA. The coaches association will be active throughout the meet as well with historical updates and major accomplish-ments by the student-athletes. Fans can also interact with the meet by using the hashtag #NCAATF.

Last year, the Texas men finished seventh at the NCAA Outdoor Track & Field Championships while the women finished in a tie for ninth and both will look for top 10 finishes again in 2016.

The Bowerman Award is given to the most outstanding male and female collegiate student-athlete in track & field annually by The United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association.

Past winners from the previous five years since its inception have won two Olympic Medals, two IAAF World Championships and six World Championship medals.

The award is named after Bill Bowerman, former legendary coach of the Oregon Ducks and co-founder of NIKE, who make significant contributions to the sport of track & field.

Longhorns Sweep Big 12 titles• Texas successfully defended its men’s and women’s Big 12 Conference titles earlier this month. Both squads domi-nated the meet and had the titles secured before the final event. The women scored 167.7 points over the 21 events and won by 30.2 over Oklahoma. The men tallied 134 points and bested Kansas by 28 points.• This marks the first time in Big 12 Conference history a school has swept the Big 12 Outdoor Championship in back-to-back years.

Akinosun Sets Standard at Big 12 Championship• Senior Morolake Akinosun will close her career having never lost an outdoor conference championship. The sprinter claimed the women’s 100 meters and 200 meters titles for a third straight year to become the only woman in Big 12 history to win either event three times. Akinosun also ran the anchor leg of the victorious 4x100 meter relay.• Akinosun also won the 100 and 200 titles at the Big Ten Championships during her freshman year at Illinois, mak-ing her undefeated at outdoor conference championships all four years of her collegiate career.• Akinosun is slated to run both the 100 and 200 this week at the NCAA West Preliminary Rounds. Should she advance through to the NCAA Championship site along with both relays, she will attempt to become the first woman to score points at the NCAA Championship in four events in three consecutive years.

raines Wins Again• Junior Sandie Raines made it back-to-back for the Texas woman in the 5,000 meters at the Big 12 Championship. Raines defended her title, winning 16:17.52 and leading throughout much of the race. The win helped secure the team title for the Longhorns giving Texas more than a 20-point lead heading into the final event.

Men’s 4x100 Back on top• With the team of Charles Anumnu, Senoj-Jay Givans, Zack Bilderback and Aldrich Bailey, Jr. the Texas men stormed around the track in 39.24 seconds to win the 4x100 meter relay at the Big 12 Championship.• The victory marked the first time Texas has won the men’s 4x100 at the conference meet since 2002.• The Longhorns pulled away from TCU on the final stretch as the Horned Frogs’ anchor leg was even with Bailey before Bailey kicked and left his competitor behind for the win.

Longhorns Sweep High point Awards at Big 12 Championship• With the men and women both winning conference titles each team was assisted heavily by a veteran leader to hoist the championship trophies. Morolake Akinosun and Aldrich Bailey Jr. were each recognized as the Big 12 Championship High Point Scorers.• Akinosun earned the honor for a second straight year. This time around she scored 22.5 points to help Texas win the team title. She crossed the finish line first in the 100, 200 and 4x100 relay.• Bailey was victorious in the 200 meters, winning in 20.57 seconds to score 10 points. His total was 20.5 as he also finished second in the 400 meters and ran on the winning 4x100 relay. This is the first time Texas has won the men’s high point scorer award since 2006.• Akinosun also was voted the Big 12 Outdoor Performer of the Year for her efforts at the championship meet.

vaulters Score Big at Big 12’s• The men’s and women’s pole vault proved to be important field events for the Longhorns at the Big 12 Champion-ship as Texas scored big in each.• Redshirt freshman Barrett poth and senior reese Watson helped set the tone on Day 1 of the meet along with redshirt freshman nick Meaders by finishing in the top eight and scoring points.• Poth posted a new personal best mark of 5.35 meters (17-6.50) to finish third and score six points. Watson cleared the same mark for a season-high and to finish fourth for five points. Meaders finished eighth to score one and bring the group’s total to 12 for the event.• Sophomore Kally Long had her most impressive performance as a Longhorn to finish second in the women’s pole vault. Long cleared 4.31 meters (14-1.75), which was a centimeter off her personal best, and battled with one of the nation’s top vaulters in the process. Long had first-attempt clearances four heights before her first miss and getting into the chess match of passing with Baylor’s Annie Rhodes.• Redshirt freshman Ali Uhle tied for sixth place with her clearance of 4.06m (13-3.75).

okolo Wins UStFCCCA national Athlete of the Week• Senior Courtney okolo blazed around the track in 49.71 seconds to break her own collegiate record in the 400 meters at the LSU Alumni Gold. She shattered her previous record of 50.03 seconds set in 2014.• It was Okolo’s first 400 meters of the outdoor season, making her time even more impressive.• Okolo now owns 3 of the 6 fastest times in collegiate history. It also is the fastest time ever run by a collegian regardless of calendar date. The USTFCCCA only considers times run during the collegiate season for its records and in 2007 Natasha Hastings ran 49.84 at the USATF Championships.• Okolo’s time breaks the school record previously held by track legend Sanya Richards-Ross. The previous Texas record was 49.89 seconds set at the 2004 U.S. Olympic Trials.• The date of the run also has significance as only Shaunae Miller of the Bahamas and USA’s Marion Jones have run faster than Okolo during the month of April.

Distance runners grab Key points• In addition to Sandie raines defending her Big 12 title in the 5,000 meters, the Texas distance crew came up big in other events to score valuable points to allow the Longhorns to defend their team titles.• Raines finished second in the 10,000 meters on the first night of the Big 12 Championship and held the lead through much of the raise before falling back.• Mary Beth Hamilton grabbed five points in the 800 meters, crossing the finish line in fourth place. She clocked in at 2:06.58, just off her PR pace and battled a group of five Oklahoma State Cowgirls in the final.• The top men’s finish in the distance events came from freshman Alex rogers. He crossed third in the 1,500 meters to earn six points. He was in a tight battle the whole way with the just .80 separating him from the winner and .25 from second place. Texas grabbed 10 points total in the event with senior Brady turnbull finishing fifth.• Texas got four points in the men’s steeplechase as nate Moore finished in fifth place. Hannah grubb added one point for the women with her eighth-place finish. • Robert Uhr finished in sixth place in the men’s 800 meters to score three points.

Akinosun Makes History at texas relays• Senior Morolake Akinosun became the first woman to ever win the 100 meters at the Nike Clyde Littlefield Texas Relays three straight years. Her time of 11.07 seconds also leads the NCAA so far this year and is nearly .25 faster than her best non-wind-aided time from last year.• Akinosun is only the second woman to win the 100m at the Texas Relays three times total.• She also ran on the victorious 4x400m relay squad and helped Texas finish second in the 4x200 and eighth in the 4x100. • For her efforts at the Texas Relays she was named Big 12 Athlete of the Week, making it three consecutive awards for the women’s team to open the outdoor season.

Zamzow Debuts Atop record Book• Sophomore transfer Ashtin Zamzow broke the school record in her first opportunity as a Longhorn. The heptathlete, and former Texas A&M Aggie, shattered the school record in the heptathlon with a total of 5,829 points over the seven events to finish in fourth place at the Texas Relays. • Zamzow finished behind a trio of All-Americans from Arkansas and her score almost guarantees her a spot at the NCAA Championships with the top 24 heptathlon scores qualifying.• Zamzow posted personal records in all three events held on Day 2 as she dominated the field in the javelin. Those three PR’s helped her destroy the previous school record of 5,576 points set back in 1989 by Natalie Lew.• The score ranks Zamzow at No. 6 in the NCAA so far this season and is almost a lock to qualify for the NCAA Champion-ships. Last year her score would have ranked 10th heading into the NCAA meet.• The heptathlon also is a family business for Zamzow. Her sister Avery is a redshirt sophomore at Sam Houston State. Avery Zamzow finished 21st at Texas Relays with a score of 4,895. Their mother Kalleen was an All-American in the heptathlon at Texas A&M and posted a career-best score of 5,642 points at the 1993 SWC Championship. Father Stacy was a national champion in the 4x400 meter relay for the Aggies as well.

Longhorns Hitting the Books• Texas Track & Field saw 30 of its student-athletes recognized by the conference office as members of the Academic All-Big 12 team. That total tied Texas with Kansas for the most combined men and women to receive the honor.• Texas landed 11 men on the first team and three on the second team. The women’s team had 13 make the first team and three named to the second team.• The 11 men on the first team, was tops in the conference for a second straight year. It also is the most first team honors in Texas history, surpassing last year’s 10. The total of 14 on the men’s side also is the best in program history, defeating the 2003 mark of 13.• Only Oklahoma and Oklahoma State had more women named Academic All-Big 12 this year, each with 17. With 16 total honorees the Texas women posted the second-best in school history behind 19 from 2010 and 2012. The 13 first-teamers also is second in the women’s program trailing 16 from 2010 and 2012.
