As of January 1, 2016, concealed handgun license holders in Texas may carry any handgun openly or concealed. Here are
some things you need to know about this new law.
The law states handguns must be carried in a
shoulder or belt holster.
Openly carried handguns may be carried loaded or
unloaded. *Treat every handgun as
if it were loaded.
Openly carrying long arms do not require a license of
any kind in Texas.

openly carry in Texas.

CONCEALED HANDGUN LICENSE
Current CHL holders will not be required to take additional training to openly carry.
Open carry is illegal on college and university campuses.Note: As of August 1, 2016, concealed carry with a license will be legal on college and university campuses. To get a license, you must be at least 21 years of age.
Open carry is legal in all places concealed carry is legal; likewise, open carry is illegal in places concealed carry is illegal.
