As of January 1, 2016, concealed handgun license holders in Texas may carry any handgun openly or concealed. Here are some things you need to know about this new law. The law states handguns must be carried in a shoulder or belt holster. Openly carried handguns may be carried loaded or unloaded. *Treat every handgun as if it were loaded. Openly carrying long arms do not require a license of any kind in Texas. TEXAS GUN LAW Non-Texas residents with reciprocating state handgun licenses may also openly carry in Texas.
