Tuesday Telegraph Week FOUR Term Four 2019 Texas P-10 State School Principals Report Last week I made mention of the fantastic parent and community body that we have supporting us here at Texas each day in a variety of ways. Today I would like to make mention of our staff and the great things that they do. Texas is a lucky town to have such dedicated and experienced staff who go above and beyond for each of the students. We have teachers and teacher aides with a vast amount of different experiences that collectively create a unique and A-grade team. Our cleaning and grounds staff do a fantastic job at keeping our school looking great in very trying times. And finally our administration staff work very hard to support the whole team in a very efficient way. We are all so lucky to be a part of this great school. As mentioned in our Week 1 Newsletter, swimming lessons are slightly different this year due to staffing changes and qualifications required to instruct swimming. There will be a small cost to parents for the instruction and transport but not for pool entry. Lessons are not based on the HPE curriculum but more about swim and survival skills. If you have any questions, please contact the office. Thank you for your continued support, Toni Day 29th Oct 2019 Cognitive Verb—Realise – Take an abstract idea and create something concrete. HPE REQUIREMENTS FOR ALL STUDENTS

As the temperature starts to rise, parents are reminded to send

students to school with a school hat and a water bottle. Many of

our HPE lessons are conducted outdoors and although students

are applying sunscreen, they also need a hat and water to remain

hydrated.

Thank you in

advance. Mrs

PAGE 3 TUESDAY TELEGRAPH WEEK FOUR TERM FOUR

Chappy Chatter with Chappy Jason

In week 1 I was privileged to be invited on a school camp.

This particular camp took the students on a challenging

journey of individual, personal transformation and helped

them take steps towards realising their own FULL potential, as well as the potential

of those around them. This is something we could ALL use some help realising! We are

ALL created for great things, but many never achieve them, for several different

reasons. Firstly, if we don’t believe in ourselves, who else will? This is sometimes hard

if we haven’t been blessed with people around us to encourage the self-belief. Secondly,

we often think it is too hard before we have even tried. Have a go! Thirdly, because

we don’t have good self-belief, we don’t talk positively about ourselves or the challenge.

Our words have the ‘power of LIFE and DEATH’, so how will we use them? How are

we helping our students reach their FULL potential?

Friday Enrichment - Theatre Sports

This term we are offering Theatre Sports as one of the activities for Friday Enrichment.

Theatre Sports is a form of improvisational drama. Along with learning the techniques

and elements of Drama, the students in this group are creating a drama script to perform

as an overall group piece. So far, the ideas for this piece include genres such as comedy

and melodrama. The students are participating in all activities with great enthusiasm and

are eager to share their inner Jack Sparrow.

Science

This year students have learnt some fascinating

things and done fantastic work in science. As

the high school come to midterm and is getting

ready to start assessment, students should take

this time to look on their past work and

achievements. Below is a collection on

“highlight” photos from this year so far. Enjoy!

Year 6

This next month will be a busy one for Year 6, with swimming lessons taking place soon and students finishing off

their final subject assessments. Over the past 3 weeks, we were lucky enough to have Matthew Mullens, a

passionate, first-year university student, teach us a range of subjects. He thoroughly enjoyed his time here and the

Year 6 students should be congratulated for their determination and motivation to succeed even when their ‘usual’

classroom teacher wasn’t delivering the lessons.

In English, students are experimenting with persuasive language and text structures to write an eye catching

holiday advertisement. Students are working on daily writing tasks that lead to their final advertisement, which

they will present to the class at the end of term, Year 6 parents will see how the students’ writing is progressing

each fortnight, as they take their tasks home. This is a great opportunity for parents to gauge their child is

progressing in their writing ability. Mathematics is all

about chance, probability and data collection, while in

Science, students will be investigating the environmen-

tal conditions that impact the growth of mould, to

determine the best place to store bread in the home.

HASS will introduce us to our Migration History, and

the students are at present developing questions for

the purpose of interviewing Ms Nettie, a ‘ten-pound

pom’. Art will be creative and challenging this term as

the students learn about the aboriginal symbols used

to document ‘walkabouts’. They will use this

knowledge to carve their own ‘walkabout’ journey into

a coil pot they will make from clay.

Parents, please look out for the Curriculum snapshot

which students will be bringing home his week.
