About this text: The information within has been culled from myriad sources, among them the following websites:

University Interscholastic League (UIL), UIL 100 Archive, Texas Association of Private and Parochial Schools (TAPPS),

the Southwest Preparatory Conference (SPC), the NCAA, the Texas Sports Hall of Fame, the United States Olympic

Committee, Track & Field News, DyeStat.com, Gatorade, the USATF, and the Texas Track & Field Coaches

Association.

Some discrepancies will be noticed when comparing results within this book and information from state

organizations’ championship programs or websites. This book includes a high school athlete’s top performance

mark or time recorded anywhere in the world as long as he / she still retained his / her amateur status (prior to

college entrance), thus a mark achieved in sanctioned competition, be it pre-season vault competition, Texas

Relays, Kansas Relays et al, or summer meets, is deemed acceptable. Thus Michael Carter’s 81-03.50 shot put

mark stands as the all-time Texas Outdoor mark (as well as the all-time US National mark), while a state

organization may not recognize it since it occurred outside of the regular season / post-championships – e.g., the

Golden West Invitational.

As an aside, [Mildred (Babe) Didriksen’s surname has 2 accepted spellings – Didrikson and Didriksen, of which the

latter is how it’s spelled on her birth certificate.]
