TGS and NOPEC YesterdayFormer U.S. oil company executives organized TGS Geophysical Company in 1981 in Houston, Texas and built what became the dominant 2D multi-client data library in the Gulf of Mexico. Former Norwegian oil company executives organized NOPEC International (NOPEC) in 1981 in Oslo, Norway and started the first of many highly successful multi-client surveys with a Central Graben regional project in the North Sea. In 1997 NOPEC became publicly traded on the Oslo Stock Exchange.

TGS TodayRecognizing a need for high quality, regional, multi-client seismic surveys and a win-win opportunity for investors, customers and employees, the Houston and Oslo-based companies merged in June 1998, forming TGS-NOPEC Geophysical Company (TGS). Since that time, TGS has set the standard for multi-client geoscientific data acquired around the world. TGS has a firm commitment to high quality products and exemplary customer service. A staff of experienced professionals ensures TGS delivers on its commitments.

Global Strength and ExperienceTGS has acquired 2D and 3D multi-client seismic data in North and South America, Europe, Africa, Asia, Australia and the Arctic. The data acquired through a multi-client project is owned by TGS. The data is then licensed to multiple customers through a non-transferable data license. The concept of multi-client data is widely applied throughout most hydrocarbon exploration and production regions in the world. It is appreciated by the oil and gas companies as a cost-effective and critical tool, used to evaluate hydrocarbon potential and minimize risk in both mature and frontier exploration areas.

Using the multi-client model, TGS plans the seismic surveys, coordinates government regulations and solicits funding from the oil industry. Upon achieving an acceptable level of pre-funding from industry as well as governmental and land owner approval, TGS then finances and carries out the survey. The resulting data is provided to the initial pre-funding parties but is also licensed to additional clients interested in the area. This concept provides benefits for all parties involved:

The oil companies get access to modern, high-quality geophysical data at a lower cost.Local governments benefit from the availability of high quality data which attracts competitive interest in the area.Over a period of time, TGS receives a higher return than acquiring the data on a traditional contract basis where the oil company would ultimately own the data.

The location of TGS’ multi-client data can be viewed through the data zone map on the Company’s website at www.tgs.com. Data from marine, land, ocean bottom cable (OBC), transition zone and wide azimuth (WAZ) acquisition methods are processed by TGS’ geophysicists who specialize in 2D and 3D data with products and services including time, depth and anisotropic imaging.

TGS has the industry’s largest collection of online well data in areas within North America, South America, Europe, Russia and Africa. TGS offers interpretation studies and services that integrate seismic, well logs, biostratigraphic data, core data and other geoscientific data to create basin wide regional frameworks. These geological products are also provided on a multi-client basis through subscription basis or data license.

ValuesThe Company is responsible to its customers through the quality products and exemplary service that differentiates TGS from its competitors. Honesty, integrity and fairness form the cornerstones of the Company’s relationships. TGS is responsible to the communities and environment in which its employees live and work. Finally, TGS is responsible to its shareholders and believes that the business must make a profit. Growth is fundamental to TGS’ success.

Page 3: TGS Corporate Capabilities

Through the years, TGS has developed extensive worldwide experience with a variety of geophysical data acquisition methods and first-class data processing technologies. Multi-client Seismic Data TGS is a major provider of global multi-client seismic data and has been active in this arena for over 30 years. Throughout this period the Company has established a vast database and gained experience from exploration areas worldwide.

Excellent project development is at the core of TGS’ multi-client success. Teams of skilled TGS project specialists are constantly evaluating areas for new project ideas. TGS places high emphasis on a thorough geological understanding and motivation behind all multi-client projects. When planning new seismic surveys, TGS makes use of all knowledge and experience within its staff of highly qualified and experienced geoscientists. All available geological and geophysical data, including seismic, gravity and magnetic data are used in order to optimize the design and parameters for the various survey areas and objectives. In addition, the geology and the hydrocarbon potential of the planned survey are key. Interaction with the local governments and ministries, communication and collaboration with oil company representatives and contact with geoscientific specialists to address the imaging challenges of the area are all critical components of survey planning. This diligent effort ensures TGS multi-client projects are acquired in the best locations and meet the geoscientific and geographic needs of the industry.

The Company’s global seismic data library is located in key mature, emerging and frontier offshore and onshore hydrocarbon basins around the world. More than 1,400 exploration companies, including all majors and super-majors, are among the Company’s clients. Enlightening the Reservoir®

Reservoirs rarely behave as predicted and modelled. Under-standing reservoir behavior using frequent and recently acquired data that is capable of discerning small changes in reservoir attributes enables TGS’ clients to increase production and make the most effective IOR decisions to maximize production whilst minimizing lifting costs.

Implementing a PRM solution leads to increases in total recovery factor, increases in reserves, reduced drilling costs, less produced water and faster data-based decisions to meet the expectations of stakeholders in each field and operating company.

TGS provides data solutions that assure oil and gas operators’ reservoir production and the highest payback for Increased Oil Recovery (IOR) schemes.

This is achieved through the deployment of Permanent Reservoir Monitoring (PRM) solutions that collect seismic information about the behavior of the reservoir, enabling increased production and reserves at lower cost and risk throughout the production life of a field.

By installing a Stingray® fiber-optic sensing system permanently on the seabed, operators are able to acquire high fidelity, four-component, time-lapse data (4C/4D) on a frequent basis. “Listening with light” using optical sensors enables TGS to deliver a step-change in reliability and to safely deploy the system in all field scenarios including obstructed areas, deep and ultra-deepwater.

An Integrated ApproachTGS is focused on delivering complete, safe and cost-effective solutions for PRM in all scenarios. This is achieved by integrating the technical capabilities and resources of a global network of trusted world-class partners in optical sensing, manufacturing, installation, acquisition, processing and project management. The TGS business model is flexible, from the provision of individual components through to a fully project managed solution.

From PRM feasibility to processing the acquired data and extracting reservoir attributes, TGS’ integrated PRM Value Chain contains a unique suite of risk mitigation tools to ensure effective project delivery to provide the highest payback and lowest risk for IOR activities.

Stingray PRM Systems Stingray PRM systems comprise a permanently installed array of reliable four-component (4C), passive fiber-optic sensors, rigorously tested and qualified to military standards. Each Optical Sensing Unit (OSU) consists of one hydrophone and three orthogonally-mounted accelerometers.

With no subsea electrical power requirements and a low fiber count, the seabed array is connected through a small riser cable to the Stingray Recording System (SRS) situated on the platform, FPSO, or tied-back to a remote host facility up to 500 km away. The SRS communicates with the sensors by pulsing light into the array and receiving and decoding the returning signals to provide full-wave seismic imaging data for detailed reservoir characterization and monitoring.

r The Stingray system’s simple design delivers efficient manufacturing, delivery, installation and operation, as well as operational performance. In common with experience in the telecommunications industry which has relied on optical fibers for over 30 years, TGS’ optical sensing systems offer a step-change in reliability, proven by the 11-year seabed operation of a military sensing system based on the same technology and backed by a warranty.

Amongst other applications, the system can be used to identify bypassed compartments, monitor flood fronts, plan infill drilling locations and sweep remaining oil more effectively.

Field-wide MonitoringHighly scalable for large field implementations, the Stingray system can be used to acquire active and passive data for reservoir management decision making as part of an Enhanced Oil Recovery program. The system benefits from the industry’s simplest, most robust fiber-optic architecture. Sensor lines connected in pairs allow bi-directional operation with no degradation in system performance, providing resilience from external events such as severing of a cable. The system’s 180 dB dynamic range ensures high quality data by allowing full recovery of direct source arrivals.

Well Zone MonitoringThe modular Stingray system is designed to help oil and gas operators address a variety of focused reservoir surveillance requirements such as well integrity, hydraulic fracture monitoring or cuttings disposal monitoring. By permanently installing a small Stingray 4C seismic sensing array on the seabed over the target area, operators benefit from high quality active and passive micro-seismic data to support production management decisions, as well as detect more localized changes in behavior by listening to real-time reservoir responses.

Deepwater Reservoir Monitoring Ever-increasing reservoir complexity, coupled with more difficult fluids and recovery from deeper waters, all challenge the need for optimal data quality and 4D detectability. Leveraging the efficient optical architecture of its proven technology, the Stingray system is qualified for deepwater. TGS is engaged in a collaborative program to develop the patent-pending equipment and methods required to install Stingray optical sensing arrays efficiently in water depths up to 3,000 m. This will enable cost-effective seismic reservoir monitoring in deepwater and obstructed areas as well as reduce engineering and reservoir risk.

4D Data Acquisition and ProcessingTGS provides dedicated, repeatable and cost-effective 4D acquisition through strategic alliances with specialist providers of containerized source solutions specially designed for PRM projects. Acquisition partnerships concentrate on maximizing synergies and creating a stronger combined offering in order to optimize project execution, turnaround and data quality. The significant acquisition activity and source vessel utilization by TGS can also be leveraged to provide source vessels from the long-term charter fleet when needed.

Seismic data quality control is carried out with TGS’ proprietary software developed to monitor the quality of system performance, acquisition activity and the integrity of the acquired data. Close integration of seismic quality control and 4D processing ensures high quality data whilst improving acquisition and processing turnaround time. By applying TGS’ industry leading depth imaging technology to 4D processing development, TGS focuses on the reduction of 4D noise and the preservation of high fidelity 4D signals to provide better and more targeted 4D imaging.
