Genetic counseling, nowadays mostly done by clinicians, gains importance each year, as technology and genetic and medical knowledge advance at a rapid pace. The results of genetic testing not only help in planning prevention and early detection of cancer, but increasingly also influence the choice of specific drugs and the type of chemotherapy. Also the scope of genetic counseling is surpassing the traditional field of breast and ovarian cancer, gaining additional relevant importance for clinicians of other fields, such as gastroenerology and urology. This SAKK course organized by a scientific committee of the CPTC group responds to this increasing need by offering a yearly compact course with the essential theoretical and prac-tical knowledge but also providing a plat form for discussions with our distinguished faculty and for networking with future colleagues. We welcome participants from all language areas of Switzerland, and therefore all our slides will from now on be in English, as also the majority of our presentations. On behalf of our scientific committee I wish you a very informative, challenging and successful course as a possible basis for your own genetic counseling sessions.

This already well established yearly course is the official SAKK course organized under the auspices of the CPCT network of the SAKK. It is intended for medical doctors of various subspecialties, geneticists, nursing professionals and other health care professionals involved in genetic counseling in oncology. The number of applicants is limited to a maximum of 30. The course is open to participants from all parts of the country. All slides and most presentations will be in English. Translations as required.
