Natural Hazards in Thailand

Most disasters are associated with
water. Large volume water flows
down to the mouth of Chao Phraya
river through Central basin Gulf of
Thailand,influenced by Southwest
monsoon.
Recent years, the amount of water
exceeded the capacities of either
rivers & reservoirs, causes flooding
annually, followed by the increasing
of sea level,this phenomena occurs
every year in rainy season.
Flooding is a common and annual
occurrence in this part of the world,
a combination of inadequate
drainage should be consideration.
Recently Major Disasters
Natural Hazards Flash Flood surrounding the central and southern part of Thailand . Flooding is the worst disaster in 2010 and in 50 years.
Best Practices during the 2011 Flash Flood
Duration: 25 May 2011-16 January 2012
Affected area: Chao Phraya river basin,
Mekong river basin, 65 provinces
Affected people: 3,014,532 families with 9,926,471 people,
615 cases dead and 3 lost.
Estimated damage: 156,700 million Baths
and impacted the overall economy
around 231,000 million Baths.
Damaged land: 150 million Rais (6 million hectares)
