Thank-you!
In September the board hosted a barbeque for camp staff, and the Fun
Day committee as a way to celebrate the year and connect as a larger
team. Ron and Tom have been meeting with some of the campers on a
weekly basis and we are planning monthly get-togethers for all 2012 campers as a way to stay
connected and involved in their lives. We are in the process of updating our website to better
represent camp and improve our communication.

Crane Lake Discovery Camp is a team effort. Many people con-
tribute their time and resources to make each year possible.
This year was no exception. Thank-you to all of you!
Thank you to Martin’s Family Fruit Farm for providing fresh
fruits and vegetables on a weekly basis!
Thanks to Jon Staken for putting a team in the Ride
for Refuge again this year. This year we had two
teams riding for CLDC. A big thank-you to Fellowship
of the Ride from Hamilton for riding for CLDC!
Thanks to all the riders for taking on
the challenge! Over $4,000
was raised for CLDC. Thank-
you to all who sponsored our
teams! This is an annual
event; we would love to have
you join us next year!

The summer of 2012 was one of teamwork and adven-
ture. We extended our program by having one two
week session and two three week sessions. The staff
felt this was a positive change. We added more of an
educational focus to our program. One way we imple-
mented this was through Trading Post in which each
camper had an opportunity to budget, balance a check
book, write a check, and make wise investments.
Marv did a wonderful job of coordinating this. Third
session campers enjoyed camp’s first boat race. Par-
ticipants designed and carved their own boats. Boats
were judged for their build, creativity, and effort made
by the participant. The whole camp joined in cheering
on all the participants. What a spirit building event!
Along with all the fun and adventure, there were many
moments of self discovery. The atmosphere of camp
was a safe place to look inside and make good choices
for the future. We were challenged by the different
speakers that came to share for our chapel times.

Notes from Campers
Camp is a fun place. You can fish, swim, and catch big
frogs. I caught the biggest frog at camp. It was 13 1/4
inches long. I beat my goal for catching fish. My goal
was 15 inches and I caught a 15 1/2 inch long bass. It
was fun! Also the food is amazing and the chiefs are
nice and they are lots of fun. My favourite part is rid-
ing on the four wheeler and tractor. The fish fry
tastes good and is a lot of fun. It’s fun to build tents
and my favourite meal was the breakfast burritos. It
is lots of fun to meet new people and make new
friends. Camp is lots of fun. Bradley
I like fishing because you can catch all kinds of fish. I caught five fish yesterday and have a sunburn
on my knees and arm. I liked putting dowel pegs in our entrance tent. I like the meals and the hot
chocolate at chuck wagon because they’re really tasty. My favourite meal was the breakfast enchi-
ladas. I like that we found a new campsite on the canoe trip and we made it back to camp in time. I
like finding lots of toads and frogs. I found a really small toad on a beach at Blackstone Harbour
when we canoed there one day. I liked that we solved all our problems along the way and we did-
n’t miss a meal. I also like that Bradley caught a turtle and we named him Hershey’s. I think it was
cool that we saw a snake while playing wiffle ball and someone picked it up. Andrew
During the trip we did three portages
and went over a beaver dam. Once we
got to Wilcox Lake we went swimming
and then went fishing and Justin
caught a HUMONGOUS fish. I caught a
12 inch perch and a nice size bass.
Then we went to bed. Chief Scott read
to us from the Bible. When we were
sleeping we heard some timber
wolves. It was sweet. The next day we
went fishing in the morning but did not
catch anything. We had a great brunch.
We had fish with fish crisp, pancakes
with fruit, coffee, and hot chocolate.
After breakfast we went to Blueberry
Island and had lunch. After lunch we
went swimming and we ‘walked’ on
water. It was fun. Jeremy
What I liked about camp is that through out
the session I learned that I am a good speaker
and can put positive influences in problem
solving. My most fun moment was when I
caught a 13 inch bass in a net underwater us-
ing goggles and will power. There were some
hilarious jokes that we laughed about to-
gether. The canoe trip is an adventure. I look
forward to doing it again. A quote I am going
to take with me is, “It takes 7 seconds to make
a first impression and 7 years to erase it. Zack
Today we swam back from
Blueberry Island and I got
very tired so I hung onto the
canoe. We stayed on a little
island out in the middle of
the swim. We played around
there for a little while, then
went on swimming. When
we were getting a little closer
to campsite I looked up and
saw a vulture circling me like
I was its prey!! Tommy
At Crane Lake Camp we made an entrance tent. First we cut the
trees for the posts, two beams, two top rails, two king posts,
four side rails, and one rafters beam. After that we dug the holes
for the posts but we only got one as deep as we wanted it be-
cause of rocks. The rest we put rocks around them so they were
sturdy. After that we braced the posts with 2X4s. We put on the
rest of the stuff except for the roof and rafters.
Camp is AWESOME! Nic
I like camp because we
have a campfire. We go to
chuck wagon to eat. It
really is a lot of fun. I really
want to come to camp
again. Dawson

The Unexpected Catch
So on our day trip at Warnika Lake it was
about 45 minutes into fishing, Chief Tim was
helping Justin unhook his lure from a long
branch it was snagged on. I took a quick cast and BAM I reeled in a 14 1/2 inch bass. So after my
catch, Chief Tim broke Justin’s line and did a heroic dive into the lake, went under water like
AQUA MAN, and picked up the huge branch and found Justin’s lure like a hero. Chris
Notes from Campers
I really liked camp this year be-
cause it helped me build charac-
ter and I can’t wait for my par-
ents to see the new me. I caught
a giant snapping turtle when we
were on our canoe trip. I am
really excited because I want to
tell my parents about everything I did. I love
chuck wagon food the best because the cooks
always cook something delicious. You never
know what it is going to be. I loved fishing be-
cause the feel of a bass pulling on the end of
your fishing line is the best feeling in the
world. I love Paul’s jumping rock because
Paul’s jumping rock is high and gives you a rush
when you jump off. I really had fun at the fish
fry. It was nice and I relaxed and had some
fish. I think Chief Jeff, Marv, and Marcus are
the best Chiefs ever because they really helped
me get through camp and I couldn’t have done
it without them.

I love Crane Lake!!! Logan
My favourite thing was fishing. All I caught was a 12 inch bass. Jumping off the
rock and going on the three day trip was fun and sleeping in really cool tents
with bug nets to keep the bugs from eating you alive. It’s also lots of fun build-
ing things and cutting down trees to build tents or put in ground logs. The best
part of camp is the food. The swimming is fun. It’s also lots of fun to cook at
campsite. This is the world’s best camp. It does not matter what you say, I think
this is the best camp. Bradley
My most fun moment is when I caught a 14 inch bass when my
goal was to catch a 12 inch. I like when we go swimming and
fishing. Chuck wagon's food is the BEST! We have fires every
day. It’s cool! You get to light a fire two times a session. You do
chores every day. I liked when we went to turtle island for our
three day canoe trip. Camp is the BEST PLACE EVER! Dylan At Crane Lake Camp we made an entrance tent.
We are at our campsite; we have to unload the canoes and put our back
packs, life jackets, paddles and other supplies in neat rows and stacks. Then
we pitch our tents and help others pitch their tents. We have a circle up and
the chiefs tell us what our jobs are, such as cleaning the canoes, setting up
clothes line, hanging life jackets, digging privy hole, rigging fishing poles and
making supper. Then we decided as a group to do some fishing. So we were
fishing for about a half and hour and I had already caught one fish and got
multiple hits on my hula paper. I was with Chief Scott in a canoe, he was in
the back and I was in the front. I cast my line out and jigged my hula paper a
bit and then turned to Jordon because his boat was drifting toward us and I
started to talk to him. When I was done talking to him I jerked my rod and all
of a sudden a fish jumped out of the water and went back in. If you would
have blinked you would have missed it. My rod was bending like crazy and my
reel was screeching. Then all of a sudden the fish went under the boat. There
is a little metal piece under the boat and I was afraid the line was going to get
cut on the metal piece. Then zing, screech, snap, pop, the fish is on the other
side of the boat and I reeled in and landed it! We put it on my stringer but its
mouth was too big for the snap so we improvised. When we went back in to
share we measured it and weighed it. It was 20 inches long and weighed 3 1/2
pounds! Sadly the group expectation was catch and release fishing so I had to
let it go. And that’s the story of the 20 inch fish in Warnika Lake that will just
keep getting bigger. Justin
