Students have been asked to make the connecƟon between being their best selves and giving their best eort on the SBA. For the rest of their lives, students will have to take tests to both prove their knowledge of a subject and demonstrate the applicaƟon of that knowledge in performance. When they apply for a driver’s license, they must take a wriƩen test of their knowledge and a driving test of their performance. It will be the same on the SBA, which will require both a tesƟng of their skills and knowledge along with a performance task to assess their applicaƟon. Teachers and stause the results of the SBA to make decisions about student instrucƟon and placement, and we use it as an assessment of how well we are doing as a school to improve student learning and growth. So it is important for students to give their best eort on this assessment. Parents can help in this eort by ensuring students get plenty of sleep, eat a nutriƟous breakfast, and avoid distracƟons to academic focus. Encourage your students to use the following checklist to ensure their best chance of success: ExpectaƟons for Students During SBA TesƟng Good luck to all YMS students during testing. Work to be your best self each day, and you will be successful. Parents, let us know if you have questions about SBA testing. You can send inquiries to [email protected]. Students should be able to check othe following before submiƫng their tests I spent at least 35 minutes on my test. I read each quesƟon more than once before I answered. I checked all my answers before moving on or nishing my test. I showed my work on the math part of the SBA. I read the test more than once before answering the quesƟons on the ELA part of the SBA. I highlighted the most criƟcal words in the quesƟons.

Smarter Balance Assessment (English and Math) and Science MSP:

State testing begins for 7th and 8th grade students next week. The Smarter Balance Assessment and the Science Measure of Academic Progress (MSP 8th grade only) are used for school im-provement planning, course development, master scheduling and for student placement, so we encourage students to give their best effort. Students may have less homework than you are used to seeing; however, they should still have some homework during the testing window. Please continue to monitor academic progress using Family Access or contact your student’s teacher or school counselor if you have any questions.
