The proceeds from the Diamond Drop at the Marion Chamber’s annual dinner go to the Poshard Foundation for Abused Children.

“ThePoshardFoundationisawonderfulorganizationthathelpschildren right here at home and the Diamond Drop is a classy way to donatemoneyandhavefundoingit,”saidLizMcNeillwithDia-mond Designs.

The mission of the Poshard Foundation is to help abused, ne-glected, and abandoned children in Southern Illinois.

“Weareanall-volunteerorganizationwithnoonereceivingasalary,andwedonotreceivestateorfederalgrants,”saidJoPoshard,foundationco-founder.“Wehavebeendesignatedasa501c3non-profitorganizationformorethan15years.Our Foundation provided approxi-mately1,500childrenwithassis-tance last year with various services not covered by traditional funding sources, including dental care, car seats, special counseling, therapeutic camps,andbedsandmattresses.”

The Marion Cham-ber of Commerce has announced that the 2016Business/Industryof the Year is Hospice of Southern Illinois, Inc.

“HospiceofSouth-ern Illinois is proud to be the recipient of the Marion Chamber ofCommerce’s2016Business/IndustryoftheYearAward,”saidDeborahHogg,CommunityEducationManager.“ItisthroughthetimeandeffortsoftheMarionemployees that we earned this distinction. We graciously accept this Award.”

HospiceofSouthernIllinoisisanot-for-profitfree-standing,community-based hospice provider that serves people of all ages. The organizationisMedicare-andMedicaid-certifiedandreliesonthegeneroussupportofthecommunitiesitserves.In1981,HospiceofSouthern Illinois opened its doors, pledging to enhance the quality of life for metro-east residents dealing with terminal illness by providing services in patients’ homes and other settings. During the three-and-a-half decades since its inception, the agency has provided services to morethan38,000patientsandtheirfamiliesacross27counties.

RebeccaWisdom,PresidentandCEO,stated,“Westartedasagrass-roots movement to help individuals and their loved ones with a terminalillnesslivetheirend-of-lifejourneywithpeaceanddignity.”

Over the years, Hospice of Southern Illinois has expanded, pro-viding more services to a broader area of the Metro East and South-ernIllinois.TheMarionTeamhasservedover820patientsin2016.Approximately50employees,includingaMedicalDirector,Nurses,Social Workers, Spiritual/Bereavement Counselors, Hospice Aides and support staff serve the local patients.

Diamond Drop to benefit Poshard Foundation and support. Hospice of Southern Illinois offers patient admissions, careandsupport24hoursaday,sevendaysaweek,includingholi-days. Hospice of Southern Illinois serves patients’ families in addition to the patients themselves. The organization provides physical and emotional support for patients’ families, including bereavement care, when desired.

Community education and outreach also are a part of the organi-zation’s mission. In addition to continual efforts to spread awareness and share information about end-of-life services, Hospice of Southern Illinois takes part in community events, gives informational presenta-tions to community groups, and collaborates with community organi-zations.

Volunteers play a vital role in the overall hospice philosophy. Over 350trained/certifiedHospiceofSouthernIllinoisvolunteersserveour patients and families in one or more of the following areas: patient care, bereavement, office tasks, speaker’s bureau, health fairs, fundrais-ingandcommitteeworkloggingmorethan12,700hoursannually.

Several accomplishments during the year: Hospice of Southern IllinoisachievedLevel3statusintheWeHonorVeteransprogramthrough Na-tional Hospice and Palliative Care Organiza-tion.
