Dear Friends,As 2018 comes to a close, I would like to thank everyone for once again making our community’s youth a priority through the generosity of your time and treasure. The personal time many of you have given in the Clubs, at our events or financially, makes a tremendous impact on the Club members daily. When you share your experiences and knowledge of Boys & Girls Clubs with your circle of friends, it enables us to open more doors to greater opportunities for our members.
Throughout 2018, we opened our doors to more opportunities than ever before. Our cello program, instructed by Liz Oar from the Quad City Symphony Orchestra, provides instruction and practice time for members’ grades 2nd thru 4th daily in their Clubs. Our first cohort of 21 cellists completed their first year in the spring, and a new cohort began this fall. We look forward to their performance at our Gala on January 26, 2019. Our programs in the core area of Character & Leadership Development have expanded outside the club doors even more with volunteering opportunities at the Madison Market foodbank, Living Lands & Waters, Rescued Moline (animal welfare support store), and homes for the aging throughout the Quad Cities. Five of our teens from Davenport spent their spring break learning to produce a PSA for QC Closet2Closet through Fresh Films which is housed locally at Augustana College. They worked with industry professionals learning about film making and met other teens from across the QC. As our relationships with community members, businesses, and other nonprofits continue to expand, we are able to provide more opportunities for members to explore careers, serve the community, and discover their own strength as leaders. Learn more about these opportunities within this annual report.
BGCMV will continue to focus on providing a safe and supportive place for community youth to go after school and in the summer. As you consider where you wish to provide your support in the coming year, please know how much I personally appreciate everything many of you have done in the past and hope we can continue to count on your generosity. BGCMV values each of our members and the potential they possess to become productive, caring and responsible citizens. We know that with your help, we can help them realize what they have to offer our community in return.
To make a one-time gift or monthly commitment to BGCMV, please visit our
website (www.bgcmv.org) and click on the Donate Now button. You can also return the
enclosed pledge envelope.
WE THANK YOU FOR YOUR SUPPORT!
Sincerely, Jenny Garlach

SPECIAL EVENTS
NEW VANS PURCHASED AND WRAPPED
YEAR OF THE TEEN AT BGCMV
Have you seen our new vehicles around the Quad Cities? BGCMV was able to purchase three new 15 passenger vans this year. These vehicles are an important part of our daily routine: we pick up most members from school every day!
Special thanks to Harold R Bechtel Charitable Trust, Scott County Region Authority, Regional Development Authority, Arconic Foundation, Ascentra Credit Union, Rotary Clubs of Davenport, Bettendorf, and Moline, St. Vincent’s Home, Walmart Foundation, Junior Board of Rock Island, and Bob and Blenda Ontiveros.
The reality is, teens have been in the news in our community lately, and not always for good reasons. We repeatedly hear that Quad City teens are desperate for a safe place to go after school so they can make good decisions about their future. BGCMV is one of the only youth serving agencies in the area that offers daily programs for middle and high school students.
Year in Review
2018 has been the Year of the Teen at BGCMV. We have seen high growth as we opened a new Teen Center in 2017 and expanded services. Upon completing our first full year of the Davenport Teen Center at the JB Young Opporutnity Center, we had hoped to serve 60 members. We ended up serving 72 members! In addition, we are so proud of our 13 seniors who graduated this year - an all time BGCMV high!
We continue to see growth in programming for teens, especially career and workforce development - our members want these skills to be successful! If you are interested in volunteering, being a guest speaker, or hosting a field trip at your business, please email Rachel at [email protected].
