Rafiki gathers the animals of thePridelands to welcome the newborn cubof King Mufasa and Queen Sarabi. Theking’s jealous brother Scar, no longerheir to the throne, skips the ceremony,upsetting Mufasa. Time passes andyoung Simba grows into a curious younglion. Mufasa explains the circle of lifeand that young Simba will one day beking of the Pridelands. Young Simbashares this news with Scar, whoencourages his nephew to visit theforbidden elephant graveyard. YoungSimba finds his best friend young Nalahunting with Sarafina and the lionessesand invites her on his adventure. Oncethey ditch their overbearing babysitter,Zazu, the cubs encounter the ravenousShenzi, Banzai and Ed in the graveyard.Mufasa arrives and pummels the hyenasthen takes the cubs home. Scaremerges from the darkness to recruitthe hyenas in his murderous plan tobecome king. Back in the Pridelands,Mufasa reprimands young Simba thenshares the guidance of their ancestors,up among the stars.
Enacting his plan, Scar leavesyoung Simba alone in the gorge andsignals the hyenas to scare a herd ofwildebeest. Scar alerts Mufasa, wholeaps into the stampede to save his son.Mufasa rescues young Simba, but Scarpushes his brother back into the gorge,where he is tramples. Scar blamesyoung Simba for the king’s death andtells him to run away and never return.As Sarabi, young Nala, Rafiki and thelionesses mourn the loss of Mufasa and
young Simba, Scar assumes the throne,uniting lions and hyenas under his darkreign. Lost in the desert, young Simbameets Timon and Pumbaa, who take himto their ‘worry-free’ jungle home.
Under Scar’s reign, the Pridelandsare nearly destroyed. Now grown, Naladecides to leave and seek help. To herdelight, she finds Simba alive in thejungle. Nala urges him to take hisrightful place as king, but still ashamed,Simba refuses. Rafiki appears and helpsSimba remember his father. Withnewfound courage, Simba agrees toreturn to the Pridelands. Timon andPumbaa distract the hyenas while Nalarallies the lionesses. Simba confrontshis uncle, the truth of Mufasa’s murderis revealed and Scar runs away,pursued by angry hyenas. With peacerestored in the Pridelands, Simba takeshis place as king and the circle of lifecontinues.
