November, 2019

Walfung witli Wafwt

November is a busy month for all of us. Sunday, November 3, daylight

savings time comes to play once again. Instead of losing an hour of sleep,

we gain an hour. One of the ways that I remember which way to move the

clock is by a little saying which goes, "Spring Forward, Fall Back." I

don't know about you, but I look forward to falling back.

November carries with it some important times in the life of Weirsdale

Presbyterian Church. It is a time when we think about our stewardship

and are pledging for 2020. Seldom, do people realize how important it is

for people to be able to pledge their support for the church. It gives our

Administration and Finance Committee the tools they need to plan for

next year. I want you to begin in pondering what you will do.

November is also a time in which we elect officers to serve our church. Who we elect and what

office to which we may elect them is vital! For the last couple of years, the church has been extremely

blessed by the leadership of the church. These last few years have been years where we have

accomplished a great deal. That is due to the fact of whom you have chosen to serve in positions of

leadership.

Most important of all, November is the month in which we celebrate Thanksgiving. This

Thanksgiving gives each of us an opportunity to look back and to thank God for his blessings and for

being with us through the storms of life also. It is a time for us to be thankful for our country, our families

and loved ones.

For Ellen, Candy and myself we are thankful to be a part of this loving, wonderful church. In

November 2017, before you all asked me to remain as more than your supply, Ellen wanted to move her

membership immediately. She found this church to be the place she wanted to become a part of. When

Candy came to live with us, even though she had been a member of another church, she too, wanted to be

a part of Weirsdale Church.

Our family is thankful to be here at this church. We are thankful that God has blessed us with a

loving and caring congregation. Each of you have become a part of our family. We are thankful to be a

part of your family also.

God is wonderful! So is Weirsdale Presbyterian Church!

DR. WALTER G. LASETER is available for pastoral care and can be reached at 352-598-5767.

The calendar for the next two months is rapidly filling up as we approach Thanksgiving and Christmas. During these holidays, please enjoy and share the blessings God has given you.

Angel Tree The Deacon's Angel Tree will be set up in the Naithex in November. The cards on the tree are filled out by families in the area who will not be able to give their children Christmas gifts. Each card is for one child and lists an item that child would love to receive. If you would like to paiticipate, please take a card, purchase only the item and quantity on

the card, get a gift receipt and return the unwrapped gift with card and receipt attached to Douglas Hall placing it in the numbered box that corresponds with the family number on the card. The date by which these gifts need to be returned will be announced in the near future. Make it a Merry Christmas for these families!

GREENING OF THE CHURCH

We will be decorating the church on Sunday, Nov. 24th, after the worship service. Hope you will plan to stay and help. Fellowship will offer sandwiches for all!

Watch for the poinsettia order forms and be ready to get your orders in. The poinsettias will be placed in the Narthex before Christmas, and you will be able to take yours home after the candle light service on Christmas Eve.

NEW MEMBERS CLASS & RECOGNITION

Another reason for celebration at this time of year is the welcoming of new members into our church. A new members class at 9:00 a.m. and recognition ceremony during the worship service will occur on Sunday, November 17th. Fellow Christians wishing to join are asked to contact Diana Harris (352-425-4351), Betty McEuen (352-245-9412) or Walter (352-598-5767).

r THE ALLIANCE STAMP MINISTRY (

If you wondered what those little bags of cancelled stamps that you see on the table by the door in i Douglas Hall are about, then here is the story. l

r · Stamps collected and sent to the Alliance Stamp Ministry help create funds to suppo1t the preparation, 1publication and distribution of a Spanish language curriculum for Sunday Schools in Latin America, Spain ,-:J

and even the USA. JThe stamps must be cancelled and cut off of the envelopes leaving a small margin of paper around eachstamp. Bag them and put them in the little wooden box on the table just inside the door at Douglas Hall.

With all of the holiday mail soon to be arriving in your mail boxes, you have the opportunity to collect anddonate a lot of cancelled postage stamps for the cause.

BOOK CLUB GROUP IN TTO

We, at TTO, have an informal book club going on. Several years ago we all went through Jeffrey

Archers seven books in the "Clifton Chronicles" followed by all the "Killing of-" books by

Bill O'Reilly.

Now we are going through the Best Seller list with five books

this year. There are six or seven of us reading and passing on

the books. This year we did Tattooist of Auschwitz, All the

Light We Cannot See, Where the Crawdads Sing, and Summer

'69'. Before We Were Yours is the latest one.

So we are notjust cooking!
