Sadhu Vaswani Center, New Jersey, USA Thanksgiving Week Celebrations February 18 th – 24 th 2009 Thanksgiving in February New ~ Care & Share Day Every year the Sadhu Vaswani Mission, Pune, India, and its centers around the world have a week-long celebration in February. It began as a thanksgiving to the sweet Lord for the second life bestowed to our beloved Dada J. P. Vaswani. On February 18, 1998, just a few months before his 80 th birthday, dear Dada underwent a successful quadruple by-pass surgery in Washington DC, USA. As he lay in his hospital bed, just one thought played in his mind, just one word on his smiling lips: “Shukur, Shukur, Shukur” - - -Thank you, God! Thank you, God! Thank you, God! Gratitude to Thee for the gift of pain which is as readily accepted as any gift of joy! Thanksgiving Week in February has evolved today into a major celebration. Each year, devotees around the world pray to the Lord for the continued good health of revered Dada, pray to Him for the well-being of our families, pray to Him to seek mercy for our brother birds and animals, pray to Him for more good work of the Mission. During this spring Thanksgiving, instead of killing birds for food, birds are fed. We seek to bring meaning to life by arranging heart surgeries, eye surgeries, new limbs, and more for the needy, at no charge. We sing, we dance, and make merry, all in the praise of our dearly beloved Lord! On the 2nd of Feb., 2008, the successful implant of new batteries for Dada's pacemaker had been completed. In gratitude, it was decided that every year, on the 2nd of Feb., the Mission would celebrate a Care & Share Day, in which, along with prayers, there would be service of the poor and needy. This year in Pune, the prayers, with Lord Shiva bhajans and Kirtan at the Satsang, transported all to a heaven on earth. This was followed by the Bhog and culminated with the 'seva' for children. Thirty children came from an institution for the mentally challenged, at Orli Kanchan. Two blackboards were given for their use, to the Institution. Each child was also provided with rations, notebooks, pencils, clothes, slippers, bed-sheets, bathing and washing soap and coconut oil. At the Heart Institute, three full free permanent Pacemaker implants were successfully executed. In the US, the New Jersey Center has initiated a drive to provide warm coats to the homeless on the streets of NY & NJ. Please bring or mail in your washed or new warm coats and sweaters to the Sadhu Vaswani Center for distribution in Newark on final day of the Thanksgiving week.
