Leader Conversation Guide – Blessed Are the Pure in Heart Main Idea This week, Pastor Larry Stockstill taught on the sixth of the nine Beatitudes: “Blessed are the pure in heart, for they will see God” (Matthew 5:8 NIV). When we receive salvation through faith in Jesus, God purifies our hearts and makes us clean. The trouble is, we live in a fallen world where something is always threatening to muddy the water of our hearts again. To sustain a pure heart, we have to protect our hearts against doubt and unbelief, unforgiveness, and pride. Let’s guard the purity of our hearts and cultivate innocence in our lives so that we can receive Jesus’ promise in this Beatitude: we will see God! Make It Practical • Be quick to believe. Have childlike faith, and receive the truth of God’s Word. • Be quick to forgive. Keep your heart soft. Don’t go to bed with a grudge! • Be quick to repent. Be humble and willing to admit when you’re wrong. “...that you may be blameless and innocent, children of God without blemish in the midst of a crooked and twisted generation, among whom you shine as lights in the world...” Philippians 2:15 ESV Talk About It 1. How do you usually respond when you’re confronted with doubt or fear? How can unbelief affect our perspective on God and the world? 2. Have you ever allowed a grudge to harden your heart? How did that affect the rest of your life? 3. Do you have a hard time admitting when you’re wrong? How does a lack of repentance affect the purity of our hearts?
