Presidents Message July
New Interim Pastor
I am pleased to announce your church council voted unanimously to call Rev Paul Winters as our inter-
im pastor at our June 14th council meeting. We are truly blessed to have such a highly qualified individual to
lead us during this transitional period. Rev Winters will serve as a part time pastor (20 hrs/wk) beginning July
1, 2018 with expected tenure of 1 year. An instillation service will be planned once Rev Winters is on board.
In addition he will supervise and mentor Mike Hiner in his deacon candidacy with an anticipated com-
pletion end of September. Mike will continue to accumulate some of his needed education hours through ser-
vice to St Paul's. This added assistance will be very beneficial with a part time pastor. It is also the feeling of
the council that we prepare for Mike's completion of his deacon candidacy with anticipation of a call by St
Paul's.
There is no doubt a Divine Presence has guided us through the past few months and even outlined a
possible path forward. I'm truly excited about our future and all we can accomplish at St Paul's.
Change:
Earlier in a presidents message I stated that “the one thing certain in the future is change”. In the last
few months we have certainly had change. To that end we will have people who embrace change, some that
need time to recovery from events of the past, and those that require healing from the change. Those that em-
brace change will be guided by our congregational meetings and look to the future, those that need time to
recover from past events and those that need healing hopefully, with time, make their own peace with change.
It is the intent of this church council to serve all St Paul's members with leadership, compassion, and healing.
All should feel free to contact any council member regarding change, circumstances of change, or healing as-
sistance. With the advent of new pastoral leadership and council leadership we will make peace with the past
and move forward with unity and purpose.
Vertrau Auf Gott

ELCA YOUTH GATHERING JUNE 27 – JULY 1 HOUSTON TX
Every three years 30,000 high school teens and their adult leaders from across the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America gather
for a week of faith formation known as the ELCA Youth Gathering. This year the event is taking place in Hou-ston and we have three teens from St. Paul's attending - Riley Webster, Colby Rickwood, and Austin Spies, along with their leader Angela Webster. Through days spent in interactive learning, worship, Bible study, service and fellowship, they grow in faith and are challenged and inspired to live their faith in their daily lives.
We wish these teens and their chaperones a safe and wonderful experience. We can’t
wait to hear about their adventure in the August newsletter ! ! !
WELCOME HOME TAYLOR
For the past 11 months Taylor Stevens circled the globe spreading the good news of Jesus through-
out cities, towns and villages in 11 different countries. Taylor returned home on June 26. While we
enjoyed following her journey through her blogs and messages we look forward to seeing Taylor
and hearing her faith stories. Welcome home Taylor!
“the disciples went out and preached everywhere, and the Lord worked with them and confirmed
his word by the signs that accompanied it” (Mark 16:20 NIV).

Flowers beautify the sacred space of our church, and are a gift to God and those who attend our ser-vices. The cost of flowers for our altar is funded through generous donations, and not through a line item in our church budget.
A contribution to the Flower Fund is a meaningful way to honor someone special ...remember some-one or just because . . . .
The flower chart is located on the bulletin board by the Church Office. The cost is $44.00.
Please remember to fill out a flower sheet and leave at the office. Thank you!
Please note if you are ordering special flowers
Like a color or type of flowers the florist has to be called no later than:

EVERYONE LOVES FLOWERS ! ! "America"
Samuel Francis Smith, a Baptist pastor, wrote the hymn
“America” in 1831. Smith was studying a tune he had
never heard, although he knew the British used it for the
hymn “God Save the King.” The British had borrowed the
tune from the Germans, who gave it patriotic lyrics.
Smith described what happened as he contemplated the
tune: “I instantly felt the impulse to write a patriotic
hymn of my own, adapted to the tune. Picking up a scrap
of waste paper which lay near me, I wrote at once, prob-
ably within half an hour, the hymn ‘America,’ as it is now
known everywhere.”
Smith’s friend and classmate Oliver Wendell Holmes once
told him, “Your name and fame will live when I and my
works are forgotten.”
