St. Gregory the Great
Mission Statement
St. Gregory the Great is a Catholic Church made up of people of many different ages, talents, and cultural backgrounds. We are an urban faith community with a small town feel of welcome and hospitality. Motivated by our baptismal calling, we accept our duty to embody the presence of Jesus Christ in the world and to take up the mission he entrusted to us by our word and example. We glorify God through support and service of our time, talent, and treasure to our church and to the larger community in which we live.

ST. VINCENT DE PAUL SOCIETY
Today we celebrate “Good Shepherd Sunday” where we reflect on Jesus’ care and love for us. Your gift to the Society of St. Vincent de Paul will show that you are indeed the disciple of Jesus, the Good Shepherd, as it will bring your love to those who live in fear and doubt, loneliness and dread.
ARCHDIOCESE OF CHICAGO PARISHIONER SURVEY Archbishop Cupich wants your input. When Archbishop Cupich announced the “Renew My Church” initiative in January, he invited everyone in the Archdiocese of Chicago to participate in the process of revitalizing our parish communities. Just as Pope Francis asked Catholics across the globe for their input prior to the Synod of Bishops meetings in 2014 and 2015, Archbishop Cupich is asking for your help as the Archdiocese begins a new listening phase of this important effort. Please take time to respond to a survey designed to help Archbishop Cupich and the Archdiocese better understand the perspectives of Catholics across Cook and Lake Counties. The survey will be available beginning on Easter Sunday at: www.archchicago.org/renew. We encourage you to complete the survey online. Paper copies will be available. TO TEACH WHO CHRIST IS CAPITAL CAMPAIGN UPDATE Currently, $406,017 has been pledged to the To Teach Who Christ Is Capital Campaign. What this means for our parish is that if all pledges are paid in full, our parish will receive a rebate of $243,610. At this point, we have $166,469 in our TTWCI account at the Archdiocese of Chicago bank. My thanks to all who have paid their pledges in full. If you are able to complete your TTWCI pledge in full, we will have the funds we will need to replace the boilers in our Grammar/High School building and to begin to replenish the funds in our Parish Building and Maintenance Fund to cover the costs of additional facilities repairs that I am sure will be coming our way. Thank you for your generosity to and support of the To Teach Who Christ Is Capital Campaign. If you have any questions about this, please do not hesitate to contact me. – Fr. Paul

TAIZE PRAYER SERVICE On Sunday, Apr. 17, we will be hosting a Taizé Prayer service beginning at 4p.m. in Church. Taizé prayer involves simple chanting in the Taizé style, a Scripture reading, intercessory prayer, and an opportunity for silent prayer and reflection before an icon of Jesus, Mary or one of the saints. If you have never experienced this form of prayer before, please consider joining us. ANTS IN CHURCH We have recently experienced an infestation of ants on and under the pews in Church. The ants have converged on food particles that have been left on the floor or in the pew. My guess is that the food is related to the parental strategy of feeding small children during Mass. I have no personal objection to this strategy, but I ask if parents could please clean up any food on the floor or in the pew before leaving Church at the end of Mass. Thanks for your help with this. – Fr. Paul YEAR OF MERCY WEEKLY ACTION STEP In the bulletin every week from now until the Feast of Christ the King on Nov. 20, 2016, we will publish in the bulletin a weekly action step that will help you to live out in a very practical way what the Year of Mercy is all about. We ask that every day in the week that follows, you look for opportunities to put that action step into practice. The action step for this week is: Take time in prayer to contemplate the good qualities of someone who is difficult for you. Do the same for each member of your family. ST.
