The 2016
OMAA Spring Workshop
May 11th to 13th
Nottawasaga Inn, Alliston
WORKSHOP PROGRAM
WELCOME TO THE 2016 OMAA SPRING WORKSHOP!
OMAA is pleased to welcome our members, sponsors, speakers and guests to
the 2016 OMAA Spring Workshop!
In the beautiful setting of the Nottawasaga Conference Centre, I trust
this event will stimulate your minds through quality professional devel-
opment and restore energy levels through inspiring conversations with
experts, colleagues, and CAO friends.
Our theme of “Experience Meets Expectations” speaks to the fact that we as
CAOs bring a combined array of skills to our roles, through our own
experiences. It takes a multi dimensional background to address the unique
challenges that face a CAO on a day to day basis..
Kudos to Gary Dyke and his Program Planning Committee members who have
assembled this top notch program. Talk about setting the bar high for 2016!
Suffice to say this is indeed an example of where “Experience” demonstrates
how member “Expectations” are met.
This is a special Workshop in oh so many ways…. The updated OMAA
Constitution has opened up our membership to include participation by those
on the brink of entering the CAO profession. We applaud and welcome
individuals who choose to take on this municipal leadership opportunity.
OMAA is committed to assisting CAOs in nurturing such talent.
As well, with a bit of sadness, I must admit this Workshop represents
my departure as President from an association that I have come to
dearly respect and a membership that will forever hold my admiration.
Thank you for the opportunity to serve you as President.
On a final departing note, I must express a sincere message of gratitude to a grand
Board of Directors. Let me simply say that you have exceeded all my expectations!
Enjoy this great OMAA Workshop!

Your emergency services departments are prepared and trained
for that major incident, everything from the response to the
rescue. But that is just the beginning. What follows can be the
most daunting part - the legal and communications fallout can
range from a Coroner’s Inquest to a social media campaign
and/or even to a full Public Inquiry, with the evidence starting to
be gathered the minute the call comes in to dispatch. This
presentation provides municipal executives with an overview of
how to minimize your legal and public relations vulnerabilities
following major incidences. John Saunders and Karen Gordon
have extensive experience working with municipalities on their
legal and communication issues following major incidents.
