Sunday, May 7– Good Shepherd Sunday with Celebration of The Lord’s Supper
Good Shepherd Sunday occurs on the third or fourth Sunday in the Easter Season. The name derives from the gospel reading for the day, which is taken from the tenth chapter of John's Gospel. In this reading Christ is described as the "Good Shepherd" who lays down his life for his sheep.
Sunday, May 14—Confirmation Sunday
Confirmation Sunday is set aside for those seeking to make a profession of faith. Youth spend 6-7 months gaining a foundational understanding of our faith, tradition and Presbyterian practices through study and missions with the help of a mentor. The rite tends to be seen as a mature statement of faith by an already baptized person. It is also required by most Protestant denominations for membership in the respective church, in particular for traditional Protestant churches (Presbyterian, Methodist, Lutheran, etc.), in which it is recognized as a coming of age ceremony.
Sunday, May 21—Senior Recognition Sunday
High School Seniors will be recognized during the morning worship at 10:55 a.m. We have 5 graduating this year. Make sure to come and wish them well as they start this new chapter of their lives.

Many thanks to our extra-special guests – Ann Cherry, Catherine Clark, Bill Jackson, Ned Manning, & Ron Rouse – at our PYC gathering on April 2nd! As we considered our own faith journeys, we were so grateful to hear your stories of your walks with God. Thank you again for sharing your hearts with us!
We had a wonderful Egg Hunt with a Twist on Easter Day!
Together, our children hunted for eggs and then created birthday treat bags to give to residents at Spring Arbor Assisted Living.
A special thanks to Claire, Ely, & Elyza Perry for their help setting up & hiding eggs!
Sharing God’s Love
Still need a Mother’s or Father’s Day present for a loved one? Or, simply have a heart for giving? Our Youth would love for you to visit our display at the back of the Sanctuary to support our trip to Montreat Youth Week this July 23-29 where they will have a time of study, worship, and recreation. Choose an envelope with an amount & item that you’d like to sponsor, read the instructions, and return the envelope to the offering plate or the church office. It’s that simple! Mother’s & Father’s Day cards are available next to the display for those who would like to offer a donation in honor of a special someone. Thank you for your support and prayers as we prepare for this opportunity to deepen our faith. See Rachel D. Benton, Coordinator of Children & Youth Ministries with any questions at [email protected] or 252-412-6248 (cell).

Presbyterian Women’s Birthday
Offering has helped fund mission projects that improve the lives of
women and children around the world. While the projects and donation amounts have changed, the commitment to improving the lives of
others has not. Continued support is needed from Presbyterian women and others in order to continue
funding mission projects like the ones selected for 2017. Grant amounts will depend on gifts contributed during 2017.

Birthday Luncheon will be held on Monday May 15th
at noon. The theme
is “God Provides” and the focus is on mission work in
the US and other countries. Please bring a dish to share. Dessert will be
provided. Circles 6 and 1 will coordinate set-up and clean-up. The Least Coin offering will be collected
during the luncheon to fund mission
projects next year.
Circle 1 meets monthly in a circle member’s home. This year the circle chose two books to read and discuss. The first was “ Seamless: Understanding the Bible as One Complete Story” by Angie Smith. The second is “Control Girl: Lessons on Surrendering your Burden of Control from 7 Women in the Bible” by Shannon Popkin. This is a busy group of women! They provide leadership for and participate in many activities and committees of the church and community especially involving our youth groups.
We’d love for you to join us for wonderful fellowship and fun. Please check the newsletter, church bulletin, or website calendar for the location each month.

“Our church is filled with many loving
people. They're always willing to help
with any project regardless of how large
or small it may be. They're amazing!”
Mitch Cooper
Carlton Del Nix joined the congregation of First Presbyterian Church in December of 1980. Del took an active role at FPC long before he joined, serving on many committees, including Chairman of the facilities committee for many years. He has also served as elder and deacon. With a heart for missions and helping those less fortunate, Dell served for 20 years and continues to serve as leader for the Monday crew of First Presbyterian Church Volunteers at Mary’s Soup Kitchen, serving about 125 needy persons each week. Del grew up in Sacramento, California and is a graduate of California Polytechnic State University where he majored in Industrial Engineering. Upon graduation, he went to Officer’s Candidate School in Newport, Rhode Island, and began military duty which included both active duty and 35 years of Naval Reserves. He held several command positions in several locations.
Del Nix moved to Kinston with his wife, Elaine, in May, 1962, as an engineer with E. I. DuPont Company. As an industrial engineer for the DuPont Dacron Plant, Kinston, Del specialized in packaging. He worked at the DuPont plant for 35 years. Del and his wife, Elaine, have four grown children and eight grandchildren which occupy much of his time. However, he has still found the time to be active in the Kinston community for over 50 years. He has been a member of the Civitan Club, Golden Kiwanis Club, and has held several offices in the American Legion, Post 42. For over 30 years, Del volunteered with Boy Scouts on both district and council level. He has lived the Boy Scout Oath: Duty to God, Country, and People. First Presbyterian Church is blessed to have Del as part of our congregation and is proud to nominate him as our Outstanding Older Adult for 2017. A reception and program will be held on Sunday, May 21, from 3:00 to 5:00 p.m. at First Presbyterian Church of Rocky Mount, 153 N. Church St., Rocky Mount.
Thanks to the generosity of Leo Smith, we now have a chairlift to the
choir loft.
