Phil Bradshaw Principal 15th December 2016
From the Principal’s Desk As we look towards a much needed rest my staff and I would like to take this opportunity to thank the parent community for their ongoing support and interest in our school. This year has been very special as we celebrated our past 40 years. In particular, this history has been marked by the theme of working together harmoniously with a clear focus on our students. At the end of 2016 our school is in a very good position to look to the future with great anticipation and expectation. Thank you for your gifts, letters, card and emails of encouragement and support that have been generously given to my staff and to me personally. These messages mean a great deal to us and we thank you for taking the time out of your busy lives to acknowledge the work of the school. May I remind you of the reason why our class lists are not made public until the first day of school. Over recent years we have had a large numbers of enrolments in the days leading up to the first school day. Depending on the number of enrolments, the school may need to change class structure to accommodate these enrolments. I am sure you will agree that this is a much better option than releasing class lists and then restructuring. I understand your need and desire to know your child’s class teacher but I hope you can see the ‘big picture’ and the unique contextual needs of a growing school such as Burrendah. Class lists will be displayed in the undercover area from 8 am on Wednesday 1st February. Please inform the school via email [email protected] if you will not be returning to the school or if you will be returning in 2017 after the 1st February. We need this important information for our census. I would personally like to acknowledge my staff and thank them for their tireless commitment to their roles. A special thank you to Mrs Kate French who has capably filled the role of Deputy Principal whilst I was Acting Principal. I hope you enjoy a happy and safe summer holiday shared with your beautiful children. Happy Christmas!
The 2017 school year commences on
Wednesday 1st February.
Class lists will be displayed from 8 am
in the undercover area.
Thank You To the graduating Year 6
students who have brought the school a new water fountain cooler as their
graduating gift to the school. The water fountain has been
installed just outside the science room.

School watch over the holidays
Every year, criminal damage to schools not only costs Western Australian taxpayers tens of thousands of dollars, but also inconveniences children, their families, teachers and local residents.
While the Police and Department work closely together to minimise crime at school premises, you can help too. The community’s role is vital, particularly after school hours and during school holidays.
The upcoming holiday period is from Thursday 15.12.16 until Wednesday 01.02.17. We therefore ask you to be extra vigilant and that if you see or hear suspicious behaviour at Burrendah Primary over this period, to immediately telephone:
School Watch Security 1800 177 777 or Police 131 444
Your call will enable officers to respond promptly and could help prevent break-ins, vandalism, graffiti or even arson.
Listen for unusual noises; look for suspicious vehicles parked at the school or groups ‘hanging around’ on the school grounds. Your involvement can really make a dif-ference in preventing crime. Ensuring our school is well cared for reflects on our community and we thank you for your assistance in this regard.
From the Board Chair
Earlier in the week I had the great pleasure to attend the Year 6 Graduation Ceremony and see our students perform, receive awards and graduate from primary school. I spoke of our school’s Endeavour, Encourage and Excel motto that has nurtured and supported our Year 6 students through their primary school life and helped every student gain a rich and well rounded primary school education. I wish our Year 6 graduands the very best for a successful transition to high school and a bright future in fulfilling their dreams and aspirations.
I’m delighted that Janine Kinninment is joining us as our new Principal in 2017. Janine has an excellent curriculum background and will bring her passion, warmth and strong leadership to Burrendah in the new year. Janine and I are looking forward to working together and have already discussed some exciting and positive initiatives around our school business plan that I look forward to sharing with you in Term 1.
I would like to thank my Board for their time and invaluable contribution this year and to Phil Bradshaw and Kate French for their leadership of the school during a time of change. Thank you to staff for your passion and hard work through the year and to parents for your ongoing support of your children’s education at Burrendah. As a school community we have a strong foundation for our future as a school of excellence in the 21st Century.
Wishing you all a merry Christmas and a relaxing and enjoyable school holidays.
Warm regards, Jane Barker
