Tutorial 1Intrusion Analysis Using Network Data Mining: From Feature Extraction to Intrusion Detection Presenter: Prof. Yoon-Ho Choi (Pusan National University(PNU), Korea)

Abstract: As an important and dynamic research area, many network intrusion detection methods and systems have been proposed in the literature and have been widely deployed. However, due to the large number of mutants of intrusion packets and the large volume of network traffic, it is still difficult to recognize all kinds of intrusion traffic. In this tutorial, we overview the well-known network data mining based intrusion detection techniques. To detect intrusion into the networks, two major approaches for building data mining models have been developed: misuse detection and anomaly detection. While the anomaly detection techniques identify only known and unknown intrusions based on the predefined normal characteristics of the data flows, the misuse detection techniques identify known intrusions by investigating the existence of the predefined intrusion signatures in the data flows. Here, intrusion signature is an evidence of the computer network infringement. As long as the data packets or flows have been labeled appropriately, these intrusion detection techniques are able to automatically retrain intrusion on different input data that include new types of attacks. To retrain intrusion, we overview how to measure traffic, how to construct features and how to analyze it for intrusion detection by focusing on supervised and unsupervised data mining techniques. That is, we discuss how to build a kind of a model over the normal traffic or the intrusive traffic and then see how well new packets and flows fit into that model.

Tutorial 2Fast Peer Discovery for Mission-Critical 5G NetworksPresenter: Prof. Young-June Choi (Ajou University, Korea)

Abstract: For mission-critical networks such as vehicle-to-everything (V2X), industrial, and tactical networks, fast peer discovery is a challenging issue, especially when the initial network information is not given or the channel information changes. Such a problem has been tackled for rendezvous in cognitive radio networks where there is no dedicated control channel and recently a similar issue is found in device-to-device (D2D) communications in LTE/5G standards. As a solution to the issue of device discovery, I present existing and new rendezvous frameworks. Specifically, cooperative and adaptive rendezvous schemes are suggested where a node rebroadcasts the channel information of a higher-ranked node together with its rendezvous message, or accesses channels with adaptive patterns. Further, in this tutorial, a general overview to D2D technologies which are considered in LTE standards and potential technologies for 5G vehicle-to-everything (V2X) will be discussed.

Short BiographyYoung-June Choi is an associate professor at Ajou University, Korea. He received his B.S., M.S., and Ph.D. degrees from the Department of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science, Seoul National University, Korea, in 2000, 2002, and 2006, respectively. From Sept. 2006 through July 2007, he was a postdoctoral researcher at the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor, MI, USA. From 2007 through 2009, he was with NEC Laboratories America, Princeton, NJ, USA, as research staff member. He joined Ajou University from Sept. 2009 as a faculty member. He is an adjunct professor at Seoul National University since Sept. 2015 and a honorary professor at Xiangtan University, China since Dec. 2013. He was

awarded Haedong Young Researcher Award from Korea Information and Communication Society in 2015, Best Paper Award from Journal of Communications and Networks of 2015 and Gold Prize from Samsung Humantech Thesis Contest in 2006. He has published more than 100 papers and holds about 30 patents in the area of mobile networks/systems and industrial/CPS security.

20172017Keynote Speech

Jan. 11, 2017 (Wednesday)11:15-12:15

Keynote Speech Data Industry 4.0: Semantic Interoperability Presenter: Prof. Ilyoung Chong(Hankuk University of Foreign Studies, Korea)

Abstract:Recently Industry 4.0 constitutes a paradigm shift from optimizing physical assets to optimizing how data and information are leveraged along the product lifecycle. This digital optimization builds on an end-to-end information flow – in short: a “digital thread” running through the entire product lifecycle as its digital representation. Industry 4.0 can impact a company in many ways – by providing an opportunity for improving operational effectiveness and challenging established business models. Realizing the benefits in these areas, however, requires that companies build a digital foundation, not just processes, strategy, and capabilities will have to change, but also mindsets.

Semantic Interoperability is the state where the meaning of data can be effectively shared between ICT systems despite the numerous ways the data may be represented in any individual system. Recently the data is transmitted with the data itself, in one self-describing "information package" that is independent of any information system to support the foundation and capability of machine interpretation, inferencing, and logic.

In data Industry 4.0, the provisioning of Semantic Interoperability in data representation is recent key issue to be resolved with urgent and optimized in the ICT processing domain. Furthermore, considering the objectives targeting for Industry 4.0, Semantic Interoperability requires international collaboration to promote “open standard” or “agreement” beyond national borders and national progress.

This talks will include the major objectives, recent technological approaches including ontological way, business strategies and international collaborative activities to provide Semantic Interoperability in Data Industry.

Short BiographyIlyoung Chong received his Ph.D. from the University of Massachusetts, USA. Between 1980 and 1992 he joined at ETRI (Electronics and Telecommunications Research Institute), Korea as principal research member. Since 1996 he has served with professor at Hankuk University of Foreign Studies (HUFS), Korea. He has taken the role of Dean of Engineering College and Vice-President of HUFS from 2006 to 2012.

His research interests are communications service platform, service-oriented networking and IoT (Internet of Thingfs) services and project leader of Korean Consortium for ITEA3 EU project, Web of

Objects (WoO) and EmoSpaces since 2011. He developed 27 patents (including national and international), 8 international standards and 196 contributions on the areas of VPN, virtual home network, service overlay networking and framework of WoO based IoT to ITU-T, IEEE and ITEF since 2010. And multiple journal papers in refereed international journals and conferences have been published on these areas since 2010. He was Chief of Editor, LNCS of Springer for 4 years since 2002, Organizing Chair, and General Chair and Steering Board of the ICOIN (International Conference on Information Networking) (2002-2005), and Chair of OSIA (Open Standards and Internet Association) (2006).
