PROGRAM DESCRIPTIONSThe open scientific sessions provide participants exposure to thelatest in research and groundbreaking information available onneurosurgical topics including, Craniosynostosis, ConfenitalAnomalies, Epilepsy/Functional, Hydrocephalus, Tumors, andTrauma. The Raimondi Lecture will be given by Richard D.Lamm, co-director of the Institute for Public Policy Studies at theUniversity of Denver, and the former three-term Governor ofColorado. (1975-1987) He is both a lawyer (Berkeley, 1961)and a Certified Public Accountant. He joined the faculty of theUniversity of Denver in 1969 and has, except for his years asGovernor, been associated with the University ever since.

PRE-MEETING NURSES SEMINARA pre-meeting Nurses’ Seminar will be held on Tuesday,November 28 from 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM. This year’s course willinclude a variety of topics presented by a number of invitedspeakers. A continental breakfast and boxed lunch are includedwith registration.

PRE-MEETING CERVICAL SPINEINSTRUMENTATION COURSEA pre-meeting cervical spinal instrumentation course on Tuesday,November 28, from 12:30 – 4:30 PM will focus on C1-2transarticular screw fixation in children. It will begin with didacticpresentations highlighting the planning necessary for the hands-on cadaver session. Register early as registration is limited to10 attendees.

PRE-MEETING PEDIATRIC CODING COURSEA pre-meeting course on advanced coding and reimbursement onTuesday, November 28 from 12:30 – 4:30 PM will give thepracticing pediatric neurosurgeon the opportunity to explore in-depth, complex pediatric case coding scenarios. This course willbe personalized, as participants will have the opportunity tosubmit questions and scenarios prior to the meeting.

EXHIBIT VIEWING AND POSTER SESSIONSVendors and their exhibits afford meeting participants anexcellent opportunity to view highly specialized equipment andobserve first-hand demonstrations of the latest technologyavailable in pediatric neurosurgery.

Poster presentations give interested parties an opportunity tostudy at their leisure, and at length, the most cutting-edgeresearch performed and documented by leaders in pediatricneurosurgery.

8:00 AM – 5:00 PMPRE-MEETING CERVICAL SPINEINSTRUMENTATION COURSEThis course is designed to introduce or enhance the surgeon'sexposure to C1-2 transarticular screw fixation in children.Starting with didactic presentations, instructors will cover thehistory, anatomy, concepts and techniques relevant toperforming this procedure.

A detailed presentation, followed by hands-on participation, willdiscuss the pre-operative planning and image manipulationnecessary to safely perform C1-2 transarticular screw fixation.Pre-operative planning will be performed on both a high-speedCT work station and a Stealth station.

A hands-on cadaver session, with close interaction with theinstructors, will conclude the session. The cadaver session willhave full operative support consisting of flouroscopes and up-to-date instrumentation.

12:30 – 4:30 PMPRE-MEETING PEDIATRIC CODING COURSEAdvanced Coding Strategies for PediatricNeurological SurgeonsThis is an advanced coding and reimbursement course targetedtoward the practicing pediatric neurosurgeon and practice supportstaff who are interested in expanding their knowledge of pediatricneurosurgical coding.

This course will be case study or scenario driven and take attendeesthrough an examination of complex pediatric case coding scenariosincluding a discussion surrounding the use of the endoscopic codes.

Prior to the course, registrants will have the opportunity to send inspecific questions or operative scenarios which will be addressed on-site during the course. You may submit more than one question orscenario. All scenarios or questions should be forwarded via e-mailto [email protected] and include your contact information. Deadline forreceipt is Tuesday, November 14. Attendees will need to bring CPTcode books for use during the course. Richard D. Lamm is Co-Directorof the Institute for Public PolicyStudies at the University ofDenver, and the former three-term Governor of Colorado.(1975-1987) He is both alawyer (Berkeley, 1961) and a

Certified Public Accountant. He joined the faculty of theUniversity of Denver in 1969 and has, except for his years asGovernor, been associated with the University ever since.

Lamm was Chairman of the Pew Health ProfessionsCommission and a public member of the Accreditation Councilfor Graduate Medical Education. He is the author of numerousarticles on health care, which have appeared in such medicalpublications as The Journal of the American Medical Association(JAMA), Health Affairs, Medical Economics and Public HealthReports. He is a consultant to the National Conference of StateLegislatures' Health Priorities Project and Co-Chair of the HealthCare Priorities Planning Group through the NCSL, The HastingsCenter and the Center for Public Policy and Contemporary Issuesat the University of Denver. His book, The Brave New World ofHealthcare (Fulcrum Press, 2004) is an expose of healthcarepolicy in the United States. His latest book is Two Wands, OneNation: An Essay on Race and Community in America, (FulcrumPublishing, January 2006)

Lamm has appeared on virtually every national news program,including Buchanan & Press (MSNBC), Larry King Live andInside Politics (CNN), Today (NBC), Meet the Press (NBC),ABC's Good Morning America, Lehrer NewsHour (PBS), andCBS's Face the Nation.
