The 40/40 Club, a luxury sports lounge and nightclub owned by hip hop mogul Jay-Z and partner Juan Perez, opened its doors to the public in June 2003. Located at 6 West 25th Street in New York City, the 12,000 square foot space combines the lavish warmth of a New York City penthouse with the vivacity and glamour of court-side seats at a championship game. “My passion for sports led me to create an environment that was not only conducive to my lifestyle but would appeal to every sports fan that walked through the door,” explained Jay-Z. The 40/40 Club is named after one of baseball’s most prestigious achievements – players who have accumulated a total of 40 home runs and 40 stolen bases in a single season are inducted into the 40/40 club. Only four players in the history of baseball – José Canseco (1988), Barry Bonds (1996), Alex Rodriguez (1998) and Alfonso Soriano (2006) – can call The 40/40 Club home. In June 2011, The 40/40 Club flagship location underwent over $10 million in renovations under renowned designer Jeffrey Beers. The multi-level space embraces an eloquent décor and style fitting of an exclusive revolutionary sports bar and lounge in the 21st century. Featuring a new grand entrance, an Armand de Brignac (“Ace of Spades”) Champagne Tower, custom illuminated amber resin bar top, supple leather upholstered wall paneling and enlarged marble stepped arena-style seating with plush lounge banquettes, the space reflects a sports luxury unlike any of its kind. In addition, the new design includes state of the art video and sound systems as well as giant LED television displays for the perfect game-watching experience.
