Prior to your visit use the Pre- Visit Slideshow to introduce HMS Caroline and 5 Ws of the ship’s history. This will set the scene for your class visit. 1. Ask the pupils what the 5 Ws are (who, what, where, when and why) 2. What kinds of information might we want to find out when we ask these questions? Who? – i.e. who built HMS Caroline, who was on board HMS Caroline? What?- i.e. what is HMS Caroline? What did the ship do? After the Presentation 1. Ask the pupils to make a list of things they now know about HMS Caroline using the 5 Ws. 2. You may like to run a quick quiz: • When was HMS Caroline built? • How many people served on HMS Caroline? • How many ship’s pets were there and what type of animals were they? • What was the famous First World War Battle called that HMS Caroline took part in? 3. Ask them what they are looking forward to seeing and to make a list of what they would like to find out when they visit HMS Caroline. The 5 Ws of HMS Caroline
